Let's end child poverty in Africa!

Description

Africa is the youngest continent in the world. According to Population Reference Bureau, 43% of Africa’s population is below age 15. Africa is also the continent with the most amount of the world’s children living in poverty. In a 2016 report on Ending Extreme Poverty, UNICEF pegs that number at 51%. Children and youth are our greatest asset for economic development yet poverty, damages their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual development. Poverty has a direct effect on their equal participation in society and limits their potential to contribute to the development of our countries. At Future of Africa (FOA), we see the evidence in children and youth wiping windshields at Opeibea for a living, selling pure water in our streets and markets, sleeping on our sidewalks and living on the bare minimum in our villages. Unless there is an intervention, these children and youth will pass poverty on to their children and their children’s children. We believe that every young person, regardless of their abilities and vulnerabilities can lead change in their communities. Which is why we discover and invest in passionate young people, our FOA Leaders, and equip them with the experiences, skills and knowledge to go out there and serve children and youth who are disadvantaged and vulnerable in our societies, our FOA Children. Our vision is an invitation to all passionate young people, partners and allies; let’s end child poverty in Africa.
