The Garlo’s Story The Beginning In 1991, Nathan Garlick commenced his apprenticeship as a Pastry Chef at a family owned pie shop in the South Eastern suburbs of Sydney. Nathan mastered his craft, and in December 2000 joined forces with father Terry and brother Sean, to develop Garlo’s Pies. The concept was simple. Offer great quality products at a good value. Using their Rugby league nickname “Garlo”, the first store was opened on Anzac Parade Maroubra Junction in March 2001. Availing themselves of the contacts Sean had built up through his career as a star professional Rugby League player and coach, the Grand Opening was shown live on Australia’s Channel Nine’s “The Footy Show“. Legend pie eater, Artie Beetson was joined by some of Rugby Leagues biggest names including: Mark Carroll, Mark Geyer, Craig Salvatori and Daryl Brohman. The event and the store received widespread media exposure and Garlo’s Pies Maroubra became an instant success. Expansion A further five stores were opened over the next 24 months. Rapid expansion and more stores followed. As the word spread about the quality of their pies, Garlo’s Pies became available in hundreds of hotels, Café’s, Schools, and sports facilities. The product became available in Australian major grocery stores and Supermarkets in 2010 and continues to enjoy rapid expansion and growth throughout Australia today. Although the company bakes 35,000 pies a day in a single facility in Sydney for distribution throughout Australia, the family commitment to the quality of each and every pie remained unchanged. Now for the first time, Americans can enjoy the highest quality and most authentic version of this iconic Australian delight straight from the Garlo’s family to yours.
