COMPREHENSIVE HEALTHCARE FOR MANITOBA MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH OTHER MEN Not all men who have sex with other men (MSM) think of themselves as gay or bisexual. At OOHC, we believe that a man’s sexuality exists on a spectrum somewhere between only homosexual and only heterosexual. But no matter how a man defines himself, the sexual health needs of MSM are the same. Many MSM are not comfortable to discuss their sexuality with their doctor. They worry that their doctor will be shocked, not understanding, or judgemental. This can have a negative effect on their health. OOHC has grown from the Winnipeg Gay Men's Health Clinic, which has a long history of service to the MSM community. OOHC continues as a place where MSM can feel completely safe to discuss the physical, mental, emotional and sexual parts of their lives with understanding providers from the MSM community. OOHC is staffed by providers trained in Family Medicine who will deliver ongoing and relationship-based care with mutual understanding and respect. As we expand, we hope to include more services such as healthcare for MSM youth, counselling, sexology advice, massage therapy, smoking cessation and financial wellness programs. OOHC currently is located upstairs at the Four Rivers Medical Clinic on Broadway. But we want to offer many more services to our community that we need to expand! So, we are planning a bright new centrally-located facility which we expect to open within a year. Because we believe that healthcare dollars should be reinvested back to improve services for patients, OOHC is a not-for-profit organization. We receive minimal funding from the government or the healthcare region. But OOHC has started the process to become a registered charity so that everyone who shares our vision can help us deliver excellent and cutting-edge healthcare for our community.
