Fluffy Furry Fuzzy Yarn like Fun!!!
Geeky Yarn Chick is actually Michele Lapinski, a self taught crochet and knitting guru from Long Island, NY currently residing in Colorado Springs, CO. This company originally began as a hobby to pass the time during the days and keep busy. As she kept posting more and more pictures of her creations online she kept getting told more often to start selling things. This is when she founded “The Lemon Kuala” in 2011 – it’s an inside joke – She created several stuffed animals from original patterns, but then life took its toll and The Lemon Kuala went on hiatus. During the hiatus GYC still bought yarn and practiced more and more patterns to help improve her already impressive repertoire. In 2012 due to her husband needing to relocate for work, GYC relocated to Colorado Springs. With a fresh city, a new home, and a newborn Son, GYC decided to change things up slightly and retire the Lemon Kuala name for something that encompassed more of what she was trying to do. Not just sell crochet and knitted crafts, but to blog, talk, and build an entire online presence around the largely untapped geek culture when it came to handmade crocheted scarves, hats, keyrings, anything she could possibly think of. So thank you for visiting!

The hand dyed roving I was working on last night is pretty much dried and hanging up. It isn't felted but a lot of the natural softness of the wool seems to have been stripped away. I think this weekend I am going to invest in a starter acid dye kit and see if it is just my method or the dyes in it self. I am very new to this so I think It might just be me.
Now that I have the jist of spinning in general until I have the funds to get some acid dyes I'm going to be working on plying. When I become more practiced you all shant be disappointed in the yarn I will have up for sale.
It has been a while but I have some new fall goodies coming your way. They should be posted soon! Some pretty awesome Spider web beanies and perhaps a little something special ;).
Finally going to have the product photos of the fall type spider web slouchy beanies , so those should be up this weekend! There are 2 varieties... well actually 3. Wool, bamboo\cotton and acrylic to choose from. Also the large power up mushroom that is up only has the red mushroom photographed currently and finally have the green 1-up to post along side it. So check these babies out this weekend.
Working my butt off on an order to hopefully get it out much earlier than usual for a make a wish child. New items I wanted to post are taking a back seat atm. Should be back on track some time next week :) EWOK!
I have jake the dog and peppermint butler coming your ways soon! I actually started work on them a month or so ago and they ended up taking a back seat to other projects I needed to get done. Jake is almost done and peppermint butler needs a little figuring out still. I wish there was more time in the day, for realz.
Regardless If I can make baby/toddler ewok costumes to sell before Halloween I will still be posting them on the shop. This week I will be loading up on stock of this fine yarn and will be making a nb variety for fun and I'm sure some parents will dig them as Photo props. Right now I am just working on how much time will be involved and then when I am finish will figure out pricing with materials and all,
In the next few months I am going to be doing some research and hands on with making my own yarn. So.... there will actually be a g.y.c brand yarn available eventually! I am excited with the prospect of blending different fibers and playing with color.
Well it has been a while... I am working up a design for my son (2 yrs) who LOVES Jack Skellington... Awesome, right?! I am working up a Jack Beanie that once I am done with the prototype ( which will be his) I plan on putting it up for sale. I won't be able to officially work it up until I am finished with the 3rd and final order I have been chugging through with constantly being sick with one thing or another :(. Keep an eye out for some cool stuff inspired and requested by my awesome little toddler monster loving boy!
Lately I have just been really preoccupied with learning how to hand dye and spin different types of fiber to hopefully have another shop section dedicated to hand painted roving and yarn. It has been a learning process for sure and a new blog post is due. I will hopefully have some nifty new items up in the future like a cute ewok hoodie which my son will be the first recipient of course ;).
