American Made Shifters , Cables , Pedals and Dipsticks
Gennie Shifter is an American Manufacturer of quality Hot Rod and Classic Car parts . Our story goes a little like this...... In 1980 a California School Teacher and talented fabricator became a player in the Hot Rod scene when he built an award winning Model A Roadster he called Street A. In 1982 Tom Phipps built street B, a deuce Roadster and another award winner. For Street B Tom modified a LaSalle Shifter, adding friction adjustment, neutral safety switch, and a park and reverse lockout to work on his 350 Turbo Hydro. This was the beginning of a great tradition of quality hot rod shifters and other builder friendly parts, American Made Parts, that define Gennie Shifter to this day. Gennie Shifter as a company has seen its fair share of ups and downs through the recession in the early 80's, divorce #1, the current recession, and divorce #2. Despite all the turbulence, we have proved over and over that Gennie is a tough, resilient Company and most importantly that the Hot rod community still loves its high quality American Made products. My name is Todd Gold and I have operated Gennie Shifter the last 10 years. We are located in an 18,000 sq ft facility in Denver, Colorado. When it was first moved out of California into Colorado, we continued the tradition of outsourcing all of the parts just like Tom Phipps did, but within a year I realized we needed to take control of our own destiny and create our own machine shop. This proved to be a difficult task. When I purchased Gennie Shifter, I was given a book full of pencil drawings of the products, and all parts had to be programmed for CNC Machines. WOW!!! What a big job that took place in the middle of operating. Gennie Shifter currently manufactures its products on CNC machines in our Denver Facility and we are proud to continue making an American Shifter, American Made, for American Cars. The story of Todd.... I have now been a part of the Hot rod industry for 15 years, here is a short synopsis of me that maybe ill expand on later. I grew up in Granby Colorado on my Parents Ranch. The Ranch has been in existence since the early 1900's and before I was old enough to drive I found a job at Ford in Granby. I remember that my original wage at Ford was $4.50 an hour , flat rate...crazy, but fun. This is also when I first stick welded on a front end loader and various other pieces of farm equipment. I later worked as a flat rate mechanic at some Independent Shops, Firestone, and Steamboat Ski Area as a snow cat Mechanic. I even had a stent at Pep Boys as a Service Writer. I was always into old cars and trucks and of course being a kid from the 80's, Monster trucks too. Stay tuned for more stories and even some pictures of the old days. Thanks for visiting our page, we hope you continue to follow our adventures.......
