The History: The early Muslim migrants were gifted visionaries who wanted to build an architectural jewel. Their hard work paid off when Glasgow Central Mosque opened to the public in 1984 as the first purpose-built mosque in Glasgow at a cost of £10 million in today's terms. As one of the most recognisable buildings in the city, it is visited by a large number of people, including the media, schools, colleges, universities and anyone wanting to learn more about Islam. 5,000 of us visit it every week to pray, gain knowledge, get married or attend funeral prayers, which makes it the focal point of our lives from beginning to end. The Future : In its 30th year of heavy use, the wear and tear is beginning to show. Join us in polishing the jewel back to its former splendour by donating towards new carpets, new boilers, air conditioning for the women's area, roof repairs, toilet upgrades, electrics, car park completion and restoration of the magnificent golden dome which beautifies the city skyline. This is an excellent opportunity to earn a recurring reward (sadaqah jariyah) for you, your family or loved ones who have passed away. Each week, 5,000 Muslims pray, gain knowledge, get married or attend funeral prayers here, which makes it the focal point of their lives from beginning to end.

General Info

Glasgow Central Mosque is open for all five of the daily prayers. During daytime, the main prayer hall can be used for reading the Qur'an and quiet contemplation. It can accommodate over 1500 people, including space dedicated just for women. The Glasgow Central Mosque currently hosts daily Quran and Islamic classes for children. We also provide daily hifz classes and alim classes. The mosque provides guided tours for schools, scout groups, faith groups, and other community organisation, as well as individuals. Tajweed class followed by Fiqh class for English speaking adults are held on Monday evenings in the basement around Isha. 2. Reading of Yaseen after Isha in prayer hall. 3. Elderly Day Care for women 10am-3pm. 4. Short durs of Hadith in English, Urdu and Arabic, after Zohr jamat. Tuesday- 1. Dars in English around Isha time. 2. Badmington for men in large community hall. 3. Tae Kwon Do for children in small community hall. 4. Elderly Day Care for men. 5. Providing food packs for asylum seekers. 6. Short durs of Hadith in English, Urdu and Arabic, after Zohr jamat. Wednesday - 1. Quran Tafseer in english in prayer hall. 2. Elderly Day Care for women. 3. Short durs of Hadith in English, Urdu and Arabic, after Zohr jamat. Thursday- 1. Darood/ Salaat al Nabi majlis after Isha in prayer hall. 2. Kickboxing in large community hall for adults. 3. Tae Kwon Do for children in small community hall. 4. Elderly Day Care for men 10am-3pm. 5. Short durs of Hadith in English, Urdu and Arabic, after Zohr jamat. Friday- 1. A hadith circle in English around Isha time. Saturday 1. Poverty Relief Homeless street curry & soup kitchen Cadogan street. Sunday 1. Poverty Relief Food Packs preparation and distribution from zohr time in small Community Hall. Dhikr circles take place throughout the week. Weekends- Urdu classes, Arabic classes, Gardening, Quarterly - Conferences Annually - Open days, exhibitions, Health awareness programmes, Eid dinners.
