The Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS) is an interdisciplinary group of researchers and graduate students who are involved in research related to water quality and quantity at local, regional, and international levels. Members of the GIWS are developing innovative approaches to sustainably manage freshwater systems across the globe. The Institute’s primary research is focused in five categories: Climate Change and Water Security, Land Water Management and Environmental Change, Sustainable Development of Natural Resources, Socio-hydrology, and Water and Health. Launched in 2011 by Canada Excellence Research Chair in Water Security Dr. Howard Wheater, the Institute is committed to a seven year program to address many major water issues. The student chapter is meant to recruit new student members and engage current student members in water issues, explore exciting research, network and idea share with like minded students and professionals.
