Gloucester City and Folk Museums, lively programme of events, talks, clubs, activities, workshops and exhibitions throughout the year.
“Over the last few years the Gloucester City and Folk Museums have undergone extensive renovations due to a large grant from the heritage lottery fund, and investment from the City Council. As a result the museums now have brand new Cafes – Café Nerva within the City Museum, and the Folk Tearooms at the Folk Museum. There are historical goodies and toys on offer in the City Museum shop, and the Folk Museum houses the Folk Boutique which contains a selection of hand-picked shabby chic classics. Both museums host a lively program of events, talks, exhibitions, crafts and workshops throughout the year. The brand new permanent displays at the City Museum include the Story of Gloucester through the ages, walk through Mediaeval streets, learn the story of the Birdlip lady, and keep the kids entertained with lots of hands-on activities to do throughout your stay. Both museums now have themed children’s birthday parties available to book, and the Museum Detectives - a brand new club for children aged between 7 and 11 years old will be starting in summer 2013. With behind the scenes tours, talks with some of the most influential historians in the country and a variety of hands-on permanent displays, the City and Folk Museums are a hive of activity and a definite must if you’re making a visit to Gloucester.”
