One of the most overlooked renovations in the home..... the staircase. So very often I see renovations go into a home with little or no thought put into how the stairs will be addressed. The stairs can make a very dramatic impression, with not a lot of cost involved.

Don't listen to the groundhog, spring is right around the corner. When is the last time you had your furnace and ducts cleaned? Have you changed your furnace filter in the last 6 months? Remember, what ever your furnace doesn't filter, you and your family is filtering with your lungs.

The start of "melting" season is almost upon us. Do you have problems with ice damming on your home? This is generally caused by poor insulation. Heat escapes through the ceiling, but the temperature outside is well below freezing. The snow tries to melt, but the water is frozen as it leaves the roof "hot spots" Ensuring not only a good R-value to your insulation, but proper even disbursement can correct this problem, accompanied by adequate ventilation through the attic space.

Although it isn't really construction related, remember to stretch before and after shoveling. And even in winter we need to drink plenty of water when exerting ourselves. :-)

I think it is safe to say that winter is upon us, as much as many don't enjoy it. Have you checked the filter on your furnace? When is the last time you had your heating ducts cleaned? Have you checked your outdoor plug-in for your car plug in??
