About Acupuncture/FAQ’s If you are unfamiliar with Acupuncture, below is a quick introduction to Acupuncture. What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is a treatment based on Chinese Medicine and is one of the most long-standing health care systems in the world. It is based upon thousands of years of clinical knowledge and experience that has helped millions of people worldwide. How does it work? At the core of Chinese medicine is the notion that Qi (or energy) travels along particular pathways (meridians) in the body – like water through a system of pipes. Each meridian connects to an organ, or group of organs and thus these meridians govern particular bodily functions. Achieving the proper flow of Qi creates health and wellness. An imbalance of Qi causes disease by supplying some cells, glands and organs with either too much energy (causing over-functioning) whilst other areas may not have enough energy/nourishment (causing that area to be under-functioning or not functioning at all). An Acupuncturist will assess how the energy is flowing to each organ or part of the body, and will manipulate that energy with Acupuncture needles to restore balanced flow of Qi. By restoring the balance to ones energy and clearing out the toxins we are able to balance the body’s hormones, eliminate symptoms and stop the progression of disease. Can I claim on health insurance? Yes. Acupuncture treatments are claimable by most health funds. Check with your health fund to make sure your level of cover also covers acupuncture treatments. Why Chinese Acupuncture DOESN'T hurt... Acupuncture needles are incredibly thin and flexible (about the same thickness as a piece of hair). Most needles are pain free, but there may be the odd one that feels like a mosquito bite and lasts about the same amount of time. The most common reaction by new patients is “is that it”, because the pain level is low to zero.
