On July 1, 2013, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed an executive order creating the Governor's Office of Transition, Support, and Reentry (GOTSR) in order to ensure successful reentry, reduce recidivism, and enhance public safety.
The Governor's Office of Transition, Support & Reentry is tasked with: 1) identifying the programs and services offered by state agencies, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations 2) assessing the success and reach of those services and eliminating gaps 3) collaborating with state agencies and community organizations to facilitate the delivery of services and 4) reaching out to the business community and other nongovernmental stakeholders to create new opportunities for successful reentry. Additionally, GOTSR will work with the Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform in its efforts to make legislative and administrative policy recommendations surrounding the issues of reentry and recidivism.
