The Great Allegheny Passage is a 150-mile, hall-of-fame rail-trail connecting Cumberland, Maryland and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The trail passes dozens of iconic views and structures, is nearly level, with a grade never exceeding 2%. Spectacular scenery, great for bike touring, facilities for camping, relaxing in quaint B&B's, rides through untrammeled natural areas are all a part of the GAP experience. Invite and Introduce people from around the US and world the wonderful experience of traveling the GAP. To help people become aware the trails, the towns and communities, and all of the eat, drink, stay, play - pedal, paddle, and other amenities available all along the 150 mile long rail-trail.
Amtrak - train route - Capitol Limited (Chicago to DC) - Stops in Pittsburgh, PA; Connellsville, PA; and Cumberland, MD. Bicycles in boxes as checked baggage are allowed on and off only at Pittsburgh. Folding bicycles as carry on baggage are allowed at all stops. Port Authority of Allegheny County - bus route - 56C (McKeesport-Lincoln Place) - Stops in Downtown Pittsburgh and near the McKeesport Trail Access. Two bicycles are allowed on the bus racks.
