GMSA consists of 75-85 outdoor teams and 1200+ players in multiple men's, women's and coed divisions, as well as a 7v7 over-35 men's division. Tonight's men's games have been rained out (Thursday, September 11). Likely reschedule day is Thursday, November 13th. Details to come soon.
Please be sure anyone on the no-photo list submits a photo (or a NEW photo in some cases) by Monday evening. A specific note to those of you running coed teams...if you have a lady on your team who was recently married, and is thus registered under a different name this season, please be sure they send in a new photo. As you know, we will edit the name of the player onto the photo itself....which means any photo they still have on file is now invalid. The name on the photo and the name on the card will not match, which is probably why they are listed on the no-photo list currently. We've been a little lax about this in the past, but it was raised as a question at the field on a couple of occasions last season when the names on the card did not match, so we are trying to eliminate that issue going forward. Please be sure they send in a new photo so that we can re-edit their name correctly.
Registration update #4 is now posted...includes all registrations and photos received as of approximately 10 pm last night. Deadline to register is TONIGHT, Monday, August 11th at 11:59 pm. Don't procrastinate! If you miss the deadline, you'll miss the first game, and the $25 late fee automatically kicks in at 12:01 a.m. www.memphissoccer.com
Reminder...in person registration for Fall 2014 will take place this Sunday, July 27 from 3:00 to 4:30 at MRSC conference room. Cash or check. Photos for player cards will be taken as well.
I hope everyone has been enjoying the World Cup this summer. As usually happens when the world's biggest tournament comes around every four years, local leagues see an up-tick in interest and participation as people get "the itch" to play again. This is looking to be no different for GMSA, as we've already been contacted by several groups looking to enter new teams this season. So even though our weather-plagued Spring 2014 season seems like it just ended, the Fall 2014 season will be starting up soon. Player registration will begin within the next two weeks, with our Fall 2014 season beginning on Sunday, August 24th. Here are a few dates and details to keep in mind: * On-line registration will be available on the website, starting around July 15-20. * In-person registration will be held on Sunday, July 27th at the MRSC conference room (time TBA). * Registration deadline for Fall 2014 will be Monday, August 11th, with the season starting the week of August 24th. If you are considering forming a brand new team for this up-coming season, or if your previous team has been on hiatus and you're thinking about getting the band back together for this season, be sure you complete the prospective "new team" form on the website as soon as possible. We'll need to have any new teams on our radar before August 1st. If your team is not returning from last season, if you've taken a season or two off, or if you're simply looking to join another existing team, be sure to post your information in our league "message forum". Teams seeking to round out their rosters will usually look here first for available players. Now is the time to do so, as we're still in the middle of summer league, which is a great chance for teams to invite new players to "try out" or kick around. Be sure watch the website for details on the up-coming season, and get in touch with your team coaches and managers if you haven't already...especially if you aren't going to be able to play this time around. Coaches and managers could use a heads up to do some "recruiting" if they're going to have to replace you. We look forward to seeing you back out on the pitch on late August!
All, due to the excessive amounts of rain the last 24 hours, and more expected through this afternoon, today's summer league games are canceled. Fields are not playable.
All, unfortunately I must report that games this Sunday are already being postponed. The fields were fully covered in snow yesterday that hadn't fully melted as of this morning, and have been too wet to even get the marking-equipment out there for most of the last two weeks. So even if they thaw and dry out by Sunday (which may or may not happen), they won't be game-ready, as they aren't lined, mowed, or otherwise in game shape...and there is more rain in the forecast from Sunday thru most of early next week anyway. Long story short, it's already looking like it's going to be one of "those" seasons, and it might be a while before it gets started. With that in mind, I'm going to work on rescheduling this weekend, but the likelihood is that I'm going to have to break this Sunday's schedule up over multiple Thursdays throughout the season to try to fit everything on the calendar in a reasonable time frame. We didn't use all of our allotted Thursday fields this season, so having already burned through our one "make-up week" so early, that's probably what I'll have to do. I know Sundays are more preferable than Thursdays for many of you, but this is a highly unusual circumstance for this to happen so early, and with so much of the season still in front of us...so I appreciate your patience and your understanding in that regard. (The next Sunday choice is BBQ-Fest & RIBS weekend, and we want that to be the absolute last resort.) I'll keep you posted. Thanks, Curt
Don't forget...the registration deadline is TODAY at 11:59 pm to be eligible for your team's first match. Register today!
Reminder: In-person registration will be available tomorrow (Sunday) January 25 from 2:30 to 4:00 at the Mike Rose Stadium. This is the only opportunity to register in person. Cash or check only. (Credit card payments accepted online only.) If you need a new player card photo, we will also be taking player card photos at this time.
Registration for the Spring 2015 season will start tomorrow (Monday). Link will be posted on the website as soon as we have it ready. Stay tuned!
Arnold Crespo of the Memphis Crew asked me to pass this along. I know Yousif played with a few other teams in the league, so I'm sure many of you knew him. -------------------------------------------------- It is with a heavy heart that I post this but one of OUR own, Yousif Kunda, has passed away today. I am deeply saddened for the loss of an amazing individual, friend, and soul. His name will be remembered for so many things and for me, mostly notably on the futbol pitch. With his infectious smile that would light up any field to his grace when scoring goals. A true hero to many! May your soul and spirit live amongst us for eternity as you leave us too early! In his honor, Glory, glory, Man United! Glory, glory, Yousif Kunda #7! While the men's cup tournaments have been delayed several times, coed has been plugging right along, and will actually end (tonight) before the men's cups get started! Tonight at 7:30 at the MRSC Stadium, it's the Coed Cup final...Evolution FC vs. Hearts FC. It'll be a bit chilly, but thankfully DRY, so everyone is invited to come out to watch.
