Hi Alumni... I am wondering if any of you would be willing to help out with the ACIS swim meet on Saturday, February 9 from 12 noon until 4 p.m.. We are hosting and we find ourselves needing a whack of volunteers. The tasks are large and small; I am sure that we could find something that would feel comfortable for you and it would be a huge help. If any of you are tracking volunteer hours for IB, Duke of Ed. or anything else, please be sure to ask someone to sign for you. It would be great to see you, and we would be deeply grateful for the help. Yours, Valerie
The Plays are on! We hold them over two nights now, at the Alderney Landing Theatre. Nelle Duinker is doing a great job with the music and leading a fantastic student pit band. Can't remember when we started having student musicians in the band. Were you ever part of one of Maggie Duinker's pit bands?
We are having a snow day THE DAY BEFORE FAIR! Gasp. I think that this is a first.
A very short term work opportunity: If you graduated from Grade 9 at Halifax Independent School in June 2010 or 2009 and you would like to earn a little bit of $$ moving furniture around the school, please contact Cate at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Don't forget the HIS 40th Birthday party Friday the 26th, 6:30 to 9:30 pm!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to Abby Flinn, Isabelle and Sophie Gagnon who helped us with our first meeting of Games Club for Olds and Elders.
Please spread the word about the picnic this Thursday at 5:30 p.m.. We would love to have visits from our former graduates. Bring your own picnic supper, or buy a hotdog there. The Parent Support Committee will be serving up free ice cream cones. Please share the event with your alumni friends!
Hi Folks! Do any of you have free time on December 11? Surely many of you will be in the throes of exams or end of term work, BUT... if you were free and, say, were willing to join us and film some Fair presentations (or take some photos), it would be great! We also just love it when you visit - even when we don't put you to work!
Do you want to run with us at Lawrencetown in the Ocean Breeze Trail Run? Follow the link below. Can't join us ...? Be a Stuffy Sponsor :) : If you would like to take part in one of the Ocean Breeze events, but are unable to walk or run with us this year, please consider our new 'Sponsor a Stuffy' option. This option allows you to purchase one of our Ocean Breeze Trail Run mini-mascots to participate in an event in your place! The stuffy will travel with someone who is willing to act as a host, taking your stuffy along with them on their event. Once the event is over, you can stop by the school to claim your stuffy and keep it as a memento. Registration for "Sponsor a Stuffy" can be found through our Ocean Breeze Trail Run Website: www.oceanbreezerun.ca
Guess Who’s Forty! Halifax Independent School is celebrating 40 years of Learning and Loving It! If you are a former student (or parent...or teacher) of the Dalhousie Experimental School, Dalhousie University School, Dalhousie Co-operative School, Halifax Independent Elementary School, or Halifax Independent School, we want to celebrate with you! Join us for an informal evening of reuniting and reminiscing on Friday, April 26, from 6:30-9:30 pm. Whether you’re a recent graduate or a student from the “old, old school”, we look forward to catching up and hearing some of your favourite memories of your time at the school. We also hope to collect tales of your adventures since leaving H.I.S. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to HISalumni@halifaxindependentschool.ns.ca, to help us plan for numbers (drop-ins welcome, of course) – we’d love to see you! The HIS Community Outreach Committee wants to hear from our alumni, to find out where you're living and what you're doing. We're hoping to develop a series of very brief profiles about former students -- either long past or recent graduates -- including your memories of your time at the school. We'll post these on the HIS Alumni Facebook page and publish them in our future newsletters. So if you're an alumni and would like to reconnect with the school in a small way by telling us about yourself, please get in touch, either by contacting us via Facebook, or sending an email to HIS parent and committee member Richard Foot [Richard.Foot@halifaxindependentschool.ns.ca]. If you aren't a former student but know someone who is, please pass this message on to them. Thank-you.
