Don't forget folks - Open House at Hall tomorrow night from 6:30-7:30. Meet the teachers, check out the classrooms, and let your child play tourguide.
We have a great opportunity for any parent(s) who want to get more involved. We're looking for a parent - or two, or three - to help with the month Hall School newsletter. It's a great way to learn more about the school - and will offer lots of good karma too! If you're interested, message us here or email email@example.com.
Is your garden a little overwhelmed (or underwhelmed)? We have a great opportunity for you! Hall is having a "Pop-up Farmers Market" this Friday in the playground from 2:30-4:00. If you have a garden surplus, bring you fruit, flowers, veggies, jams and baked goods! (Carolyn Fernald will collect any items on Thursday or Friday - message us here for more info). If you are in need of fruits and veggies, all items will be available to you with a donation to Hall.
Just a friendly reminder to join us at Hall this Thursday, September 11 from 5-7pm for the Hall School Back to School BBQ. It's a great way to connect with other parents, teachers, and all your children's newest friends! Also - make sure you have these other dates: Thursday, September 18, 6:30-7:30 - Hall School Open House Monday, September 22, 6:30-8:00 - First PTO meeting of the year! Thursday, September 25 - School picture day
Aaaaaand we have a new assistant principal (in case you haven't gone through your pile of papers yet)! Welcome John Dickerson! John most recently served as the assistant principal of Songo Locks Lake School in Naples. Word on the street (from our kids) is that he's about our age and is friendly. Find out for yourself at any of our upcoming Hall School events - BBQ Sept. 11, Open House Sept. 18, PTO Meeting Sept.22!
Just to clear up any confusion, Hall School is still offering universal breakfast to all Hall students in the classroom each morning. There should be a flyer going out to parents about this, but we know some people have been asking (And the info that went out today from the Portland Schools food service didn't have Hall on that list.)
We hope you're all enjoy this glorious end to summer! While you're frolicking in the sun, let us know what goals you think the PTO should have this year. Don't be shy! Just comment below.
Here's some info about another of the new teachers joining the Hall community this year - Vanessa Churchill, who will be a 3-5 Many Rivers teacher. Welcome! Since moving to Maine in 2009, Vanessa Churchill has been eagerly waiting for a job opening at Hall Elementary School. Originally from Connecticut, she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico when she was 15 and stayed throughout High School before continuing on to pursue her BFA in Sculpture at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. While living in the Bay Area, Vanessa worked as an assistant teacher at the San Francisco Day School which sparked her passion for teaching. Deciding to pursue a Masters in Education, Vanessa moved to Maine and attended ETEP at the University of Southern Maine. She completed her internship in a Multiage 3/4 Classroom at Wells Elementary School and has since taught at Waterford Memorial School in the Oxford Hills School District. Vanessa lives in Portland with her hound dog Jonesy and is thrilled to be a member of the Many Rivers Community.
Here's some more info about one of our newest teachers. Welcome to Hall! Tonya LaChance-Bufano is very excited to join the Many Rivers 3-4-5 team. She has a BS from the University of Southern Maine in Social Sciences, and took her teaching certification classes at the University of New England. She taught in Los Angeles for three years and decided to move to Maine to continue teaching in her home state. She taught multi-age classes on Peaks Island for seven years and then moved to The East End Community School working under the Expeditionary Learning Model. She most recently finished the coursework for Teaching English as a Second Language at the University of Southern Maine. She enjoys project-based learning and believes all students can be successful by meeting them where they are on their own path of learning, and taking them to the next level. She enjoys reading, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family.

This is a reminder that we have a very important meeting on the future role of the PTO taking place tonight in the library from 6:30-7:30. Basically - how much effort should we spend fundraising? If we don't fundraise as much, which of our funding programs should we cut or scale back? What should the future of our PTO look like? What is important to the parents of Hall? We would love to have as many parents as possible for this conversation so please join us. Childcare is provided.
Tonight's PTO meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday at 6:30. Please join us as we discuss our budget / fundraising efforts for the remainder of this year.

Come and share your vision for what will make a great new Hall School on Wednesday at 6pm at the Parent Forum for the New School Construction. Your ideas count and will be recorded by the architects! There will be childcare! They need your input!
