Description

Halton Roller Hockey was founded in 1995 to provide a safe and fun environment to play roller hockey. Over the last 17 years our membership has grown from 100 players the first year to over 700 members last year. Our players come from all over the Halton region and all over the GTA including Stoney Creek, Hamilton, Burlington, Milton, Oakville, Toronto, Acton & Mississauga. Traditionally, our house league games were played at Oakville Arena, in the heart of downtown Oakville. However, this year we were excited to have moved to a new facility, Joshua Creek Arenas in Oakville. We believe that this was a huge upgrade for both the playing aspect of our league (as we had 2 NHL size pads to use) and for the overall player experience (state of the art facilities, better ventilation, new flooring). We used both pads, so it provided us flexibility on scheduling for Rep team practices and our Waterfront Gala weekend which added to the Roller Player's experience (no more 1am finish times for men’s league). Last but certainly not least, there is the Gondola Bar and Grill upstairs, with an amazing view of both rinks, cool refreshments, food service and lots of TV’s to keep you updated on everything going on in the sporting world As far as our house league goes, we offer an age group and skill level for everyone from 5 years of age and up. Our house leagues and hub (advanced) leagues are for both youth and adult and operate co-ed. Our adult program offers five different levels of play: Recreational A and B, Competitive & Elite, as well as a 30 and over division. We also have a 'Select' program for each age group, which competes in tournament play against teams from all over North America. We are known as the Tour Oakville Coyotes. Tour Hockey, the world's leading inline Hockey Company, is our league sponsor. We are privileged to have their support. They back our development of high performance rep teams, as well as our grass roots house league players. Halton Roller Hockey has also, in the past, offered a Summer Sports Day Camp, with the emphasis on inline hockey of course. Unfortunately, due to our transition from Oakville arena to Joshua Creek, we were unable to run the camp however, provided there is enough interest, we thoroughly enjoy running the day camp for kids of all ages. The camp traditionally has included many sports, like swimming, soccer and baseball as we strive to provide a healthy, active day camp for our participants. However, the focus has and will always be roller hockey development, from basic skills like skating, shooting and stopping, to high performance work on proper positional play and creativity. If you have any further questions regarding the camp, please feel free to contact us. So why has the sport grown so much? In short, the game of roller hockey is a game that is very familiar to Canadians ("hockey on wheels"). The sport is a fast, action-packed game with lots of goals. Why so many goals? Roller hockey is a non-contact game that relies on the speed and finesse of its players. There are no offsides, no 2 line pass and no icing, so the transitions of the game are very quick creating many offensive opportunities. Does roller hockey improve your Ice Hockey skills? Absolutely! The muscle groups required for skating as well as the skills needed to play the game are the similar to what you use in ice hockey. However, because the game is played 4 on 4, players are forced to play the puck and skate more than in the ice version providing a great developmental atmosphere for the game of hockey. Many of our professional ice hockey players have cited roller hockey as being crucial to their development. In fact, here are some players who have or are still playing in our league who are currently playing Elite ice hockey: Sam Gagner – Edmonton Oilers (NHL), Stefan Legein – Adirondack (AHL), Tyler Donati –Chicago Express (ECHL), Justin Donati – Elmira Jackals (ECHL), Rob Hisey – Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL), Drew Schiestel – Rochester Americans (AHL), Trevor Cann – Lake Erie Monsters (AHL), Scott Timmins – Florida Panthers (NHL), Brandon Alderson - Sault Greyhounds (OHL), Julian Luciani – Sarnia Sting (OHL), Justin Vaive – San Antonia Rampage (AHL), Brandon Defazio – Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (AHL), Cory Conacher – Norfolk Admirals (AHL) and many other players in Canadian University Hockey (CIAU) and the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League. You can register by printing our online registration form or you can pickup registration forms at Corbetts Sports 450 South Service Rd. in Oakville. We also have in-person registrations in January and February (TBA). There are registration forms available in most Oakville Arenas. Come on out and enjoy the 'Coolest' game on earth!
