Hanover Public Schools Vision 2020 What do we want our students to know and be able to do to succeed and compete in a world that is changing at an extraordinary pace? This is the essential question we must ask ourselves everyday as we prepare our students for the future. To help answer this question, I am excited to report on our progress toward the full implementation of our Vision 2020 initiative. As you may know by now, Vision 2020 is our code name for the procurement and integration of a fully aligned math curriculum for all students in grades K through 8. Vision 2020 also includes a technology project that will support our K-8 students and teachers in all subject areas through the year 2020 and beyond. To gain a better perspective on the importance of Vision 2020, please watch this informational video: Vision 2020 Direct Link: http://youtu.be/MII6sGXxDb8 In close collaboration with the School Department, our Town Manager has put forward an article approved by the Board of Selectmen to be discussed and voted at the Annual Town Meeting on May 4th 2015 (click to view the warrant in its entirety). This article proposes that $600,000 of free cash be appropriated for the Vision 2020 initiative. With an affirmative vote from our community at Town Meeting, these funds would be dedicated for the purpose of implementing Vision 2020. This is a significant financial investment for our community and we are asking for your support to move this important work forward. To learn more about Vision 2020, please visit our dedicated Vision 2020 web page that includes answers to frequently asked questions, a schedule for upcoming parent forums, classroom videos, excerpts from the 2013 Abrahams Report, and a detailed budget for both the curricular and technology components of this initiative. We welcome your ideas and feedback. Don’t hesitate to contact your child’s principal or my office with your questions. You may also share your thoughts via our Let’s Talk! communication platform on our website: http://www.hanoverschools.org/letstalk/ We encourage you to take the time to understand what Vision 2020 represents and the value it will bring to our school community. Your support for this critical initiative is needed and greatly appreciated. Respectfully, Matthew A. Ferron Superintendent of Schools
