HEALTHY ME Question and Answer Time I’m trying to lose weight. How often should I eat??? There are no hard and fast rules here, but if you are asking this question with the mindset that eating less is best and this is what will help you lose weight, then let’s get you on track…. Let’s answer your question: when we eat less our bodies have less to do digestion, repair and maintenance wise, so the body’s metabolism, hormones and ability to burn fat slow down, hence the weight plateau or weight gain. What we need to do is to get the body back to functioning efficiently and healthy again so an increase in good calories with a healthy eating plan will provide the body with the nutrients and sustenance that it needs to restore all these bodily functions that have slowed and become sluggish. Our bodies need to eat regularly, but you will find if all body systems are healthy and functioning efficiently our body has great regulation systems in place that will guide our body as to when it’s hungry and when it needs to stop feeding. Some peoples bodies function perfectly well on eating 3 wholesome meals a day, these meals are usually higher in good fats and protein to sustain the body over longer periods. Other times you will hear people speaking about eating 5-6 times a day this is often the case if in training for sporting events or gym strength training, eating regularly encourages the body to work and get all body systems fired up, this way of eating works really well if meals are again wholesome, healthy and all macro-nutrients are included. So one final note, if our bodies are fueled with regular meals of the healthiest foods available to us, elimination of all processed foods and all areas of our life are balanced & satisfied then this is when our bodies will be the best version it can be.
