Our History:
Heart and Hand Ministries, Inc., was founded in 1997 under the sponsorship of Olivet Baptist Church and Pastor Steve Kern, with a vision of helping homeless women and their children in the inner city of Oklahoma City. The original home used by the ministry was a home in NW Oklahoma City that belonged to Olivet Baptist Church member, Mary West, donated by her son David West, in honor of his mother. The second property was a property donated by the Dawson’s, another Olivet Baptist Church family.
The Millie Bradley Complex, a group of four houses adjacent to each other, was purchased in 1997 through a generous grant from the Kirkpatrick Foundation. The complex was named in honor of Pastor Steve Kern’s mother. Additional properties have been added through the years allowing the ministry to now house and assist six to eight families simultaneously.
We are grateful that, as of January 2013, over 1000 families have passed through Heart and Hand Ministries, many of whom have gone on to lead productive lives within our community.

Our Program:
The ministry program is a 12-18 month program where each woman entering agrees to adhere to a strict set of rules including no drugs, no alcohol, and no men in their homes. Although being a Christian is not compulsory, families are required to attend and actively participate in church. While a part of the program, our families are provided basic needs including food, housing, job training, education, etc. They are lovingly led and instructed by our Women’s Director, Kathy Pauwell, who graciously ministers to their needs…spiritually, physically, and emotionally. As a part of the program, the women are taught life skills such as how to set and acheive goals, how to budget, etc. and each are encouraged to save money toward the time they will leave.
Many come to the program having lost their children and the ministry works with them to help them regain visitation rights and/or custody.
Discipleship is of major importance while involved in the ministry. The women and their children are taught from a biblical perspective with the hope that during their stay, they will pray to receive Christ as their personal Savior.
