Description

A celebration of contemporary art held each August in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Local, national, and international artists come together to present unique performances of their work, share skills in public workshops, and take part in provoking discussions. The festival is organized by Eastern Edge Gallery: a not for profit artist-run centre committed to exhibiting contemporary art in diverse media. WHAT WILL I SEE? Fancy Artist Talks - 9 different artists present their work while you sip on a cocktail inspired by their artistic practice at Eastern Edge Gallery. Carnival Art Crawl - featuring 5 visiting and 4 local artist projects across downtown as well as variety of pop up events, artist studios and local galleries as well as a curated drive in movie theatre of Canadian video art. Artist projects by - Donald Lawrence (Kamloops), Michael McCormack (Halifax), Rachael Shannon (Baltimore), Andreas Buchwaldt (Banff), Sara Tilley (St. John's), Kyle Bustin (St. John's), Elling Lien (St. John's), Charmaine Wheatley (Glovertown), and Michael Waterman (St. John's). Carnival Art Crawl Headquarters - Stop by the Ship, where if you've visited 5+ artists projects you'll get in for 1/2 off. Entertainment by local musicians and performers (TBA). Art Workshops led by Sara Tilley and Rachael Shannon for the public. No previous art experience necessary. The Art Marathon Event. Over 60 artists making art live, with local bands (TBA), and various pop up performances throughout the day. Open to all ages. Art auction and exhibition. A great place to start or continue your art collection! All proceeds to EE, a not for profit charity and ARC. The festival will take place August 13th to 17th 2014 at 72 Harbour Drive and surrounding areas. 2013 marked the first year with a festival theme. It opened doors, windows, and strange cellars to us, and invited the entire city into the splendour of dreamworlds. This year artists working with ideas of chance, spectacle, and the uncanny take center stage at this years' Art Marathon Festival as we explore the theme Carnival. Suspending disbelief, artists act as ringmasters ushering in visions that promise to mesmerize, delight, and captivate minds both young and old.
