Holy Spirit School recognizes the importance of Catholic education and we believe that: 1. Our school should offer students an opportunity for spiritual growth in a distinctive Christian environment so that our students may pursue a life centered on the teachings of Jesus Christ. 2. Our school should provide a learning environment that promotes emotional, intellectual, and physical well-being. 3. Our school should instill a sense of responsibility in students for their own learning. 4. Our school should enhance our relationship with the community through on-going communication among students, parents, staff, and parish groups. 5. Our school should encourage the development of high standards of behavior that will enable our students to function successfully in school and in society. 6. Our school should foster academic achievement through child-focused instruction that offers students ample opportunities for both success and a heightened awareness of the Gospels. 7. Our school should develop attitudes of respect and dignity in our students toward themselves, their peers, and those in authority.

Holy Spirit Parents and Friends, Our big cash raffle ticket fundraiser kicked-off this weekend and you'll be getting your three orange booklets to sell this afternoon. We really need for everyone to make an effort to sell their tickets (or buy them) so that we won't have to do any other fund-raising for the rest of the year! We did it last year and we can do it again. Remember that they are $10 each, or a book of 6 for $50. Our Home and School Association will meet next Monday, Sept 22 at 6:00 in the school cafeteria. We want to make a special invitation to all of our new families to attend and hear a short presentation on our school Scrip Program. You will NOT be volunteered to be on any committees, so plan to attend to learn more about your school, and ways you can save money while earning money for your school. Basketball teams play tonight at home, and tomorrow at Christ the King, 6:30 and 7:30PM, respectively. Have a peace-filled week everyone. God bless you all.
Holy Spirit Parents and Friends, We are now half way into the first grading period. Please check your child's grades on your Parent Portal today after 4:00PM. As you may have heard, the Diocese has purchased a new administrative software program for teachers to use to post grades and communicate with parents. It has only been "active" since July 1 and our teachers have had very little training on its many functions. So, there may be some issues with this first attempt at a Progress Report to parents. Please bare with us. E-mail your child's teacher if you have questions. We will make corrections or explain scores as quickly as possible. We need more help this evening with our annual raffle ticket fundraiser preparation. A group will be meeting in the school library at 6:30 to seal envelopes and put on address labels. This is a simple way to get some volunteer time in. Might take 90 minutes. Please help if you can. The parish Youth Group will be holding a Car Wash behind the Watson Realty on the corner of Monument Rd and McCormick tomorrow morning from 9:00-12:00 to raise funds for their activities. Please come out and support Holy Spirit youth! Have a blessed weekend!
Holy Spirit Parents, If you have a daughter in the 5th-8th grade, we still have some spots available on our Cheerleader Squad. The squad is being trained and coached by Holly Koonce who owns and operates GLAM (God's Love and Mercy) Cheer and Dance here in Jacksonville. This is a great opportunity for a child to have a new and exciting experience, and receive top notch instruction in cheer. No experience required. Thanks to everyone for their careful attention to our arrival and dismissal procedures. I know its been confusing with some "rain dismissals," but we appreciate your patience and emphasis on student safety. Please remember, no cell phones while you are driving on campus. Many thanks to all of those who volunteered to help us rake and seed our new soccer field recently. Tithing of your time is a wonderful gift to the Lord. Look, the grass is growing! Final thought, will anyone know you are a Christian, today?
Parents, So as to avoid confusion, let's have all students wear their regular uniforms to school on the first day. No PE uniforms day one. You may drop-off students beginning at 7:35 AM in front of the gym tomorrow. Please enter the property from the main entrance off of Ft. Caroline Rd. (The one with the big church sign). Follow the cones and direction arrows for the traffic pattern. The students will not be going to 8:30 Mass on Thursday this week, but we will go on Friday, Aug 15th for the Holy Day. Looking forward to a Christ-filled school year. Peace, Dr. Luciano
Holy Spirit Parents and Friends, Here's the schedule of school start-up. Next Tuesday, August 12th at 9:00 AM is the Kindergarten Open House and Orientation for NEW STUDENTS ONLY. So, only families with a Kindergarten child, or a child who was NOT in our school last year, will be permitted into the school for that event. The school year begins at 7:50 AM on Wednesday, August 13th for students in Kindergarten to 8th grade. We will gather in the gym beginning at 7:35 that day and Kindergarten parents may park in the church parking lot and walk their child into the gym on that first day only. As for Pre-K, they will have their Orientation on Friday, August 15th at 9:00 AM and those students begin the year on Monday, August 18th at 8:27 AM. Lots of exciting things happening at the school, ladies and gentlemen. We've increased our school-wide Wi-Fi capability and server capacity. We've purchased new laptops for every fulltime teacher. Next step will be to increase IP addresses to allow students to connect wirelessly. We've spent a great deal of money to purchase new Math and Science textbooks for our middle school students and new Spanish texts for most of the school. We are greatly increasing the area of usable playground space with a major project to improve the soccer field and adjacent areas. Stay tuned for our appeal for dads to help us dig up roots and spread top soil in the near future. Looking forward to the start of another Christ-centered school year. Hope everyone has had a great summer and is ready to start another great school year at Holy Spirit Catholic School! God bless you all.
So who's ready to go back to school!?
Happy Father's Day to all the Fathers out there! As the tour guide at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in DC happily said upon seeing how many dads made the trip as chaperones with their safety patrol children, there is no substitute for a father. God bless you all.
Holy Spirits Parents and Friends: Here's what happening at your child's school this week. The Home and School Association (H.S.A) will meet at 6:00PM today, Feb 24th, in the cafeteria. Anthony will celebrate the 18th anniversary of his Ordination to the priesthood. He will be celebrating a special 8:30 AM Mass for those who can make it. This Friday is a busy day! 4th and 5th grades have a field trip to the Jax Symphony. Students are dismissed at 11:30 Friday. A $2 blue-jeans day, if interested. Proceeds to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital. A meatless pasta dinner will be served in the gym at 5:00PM for $5 as a fund-raiser for the 8th grade class. This Saturday is a Dad's Work Day in the gym starting at 8:00AM. Bring cleaning supplies and knock off some volunteer hours. A free hotdog lunch will be provided at 11:30AM in appreciation for your efforts. Please consider attending the Sunday 6:00PM Youth Mass. Encourage your child to sing in the church choirs either Saturday at 5:00 or Sundays at 6:00PM. They earn a Monday "dress-down day" for every time they sing. Our 2nd-8th grade students will be taking the Iowa Assessment Tests all next week. Try to have them eat breakfast and well-rested so they can do their best. Happy Lent. By His cross, He has redeemed the world!
Congrats to our Singing Hurricanes! Choral honors: Adam Cabrey and Angelo Rosas participated in the 12th annual First Coast Honors Choir Festival on January 31, 2015. Students are nominated by their music teacher and must exhibit qualities such as discipline, kindness, and an aptitude for music. They had the honor of working with the associate director of the Princeton Girlchoir and the American Boychoir School. Mrs. Steinmeyer also attended the teacher workshop. This was Adam’s third year and Angelo’s first year to receive this honor. Melissa Molano also performed at the concert as a member of the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus Treble Choir. Madelynn Bright, an 8th grader at HSCS, is in the JCC Concert Choir, and Solana Meissner, 3rd grade, is in the JCC Training choir. Parents, For morning drop-off, if you'll be in the habit of always entering the property from Ft. Caroline Rd. at the main church entrance, you'll always be directed by the orange cones to the correct traffic pattern for morning drop-off. The parish Men's Club will be holding a fish fry this Friday 5:00-7:00 PM in the gym. $8 for adults, $5 for children. Have a meaningful Lent! God bless you.

Keep those Box Tops for Education labels coming in for us too. Every one of them is worth 10 cents and the hundreds of dollars add up very quickly. God bless Holy Spirit Catholic School and all of our families and friends.

Dear Holy Spirit Parents and Friends: This is a four day week for the students. There is no school on Friday, Feb 13th for a Teacher Planning Day AND no school on Monday, Feb 16th in honor of Presidents' Day. Woot, woot! Please consider purchasing a $50 car raffle ticket from us. It is completely tax deductible and you could win $10,000. We need to sell as many tickets as possible to put a nice new electronic sign in front the school and church. Please consider having your taxes prepared at the H&R Block right next to the new Publix on Monument Rd. Tell them you're from HS School and they give us $20 for every return they file. Dads looking for volunteer hours need to put the morning of Sat. Feb 28th on their calendars. We're organizing a work detail to completely clean the gym. Sons (ten years old and older) are invited and we'll be grilling hot dogs afterward. Watch for a backpack notice coming home soon with more information. In peace. Holy Spirit Catholic School

Holy Spirit School Parents and Staff, Do you ever feel like the priest giving the homily assumes you understand a lot more about the Catholic faith than you really do? It's very common to have questions about what we're supposed to believe. Whether you're a "cradle Catholic", a recent convert, or just interested in growing in your faith and getting some answers. Well, the good news is . . . you can learn more about your faith in a relaxed classroom setting right here at the school on Thursday evenings in our Art room. You may contact Ed Prisby at email@example.com or 607-1774 to enroll. The class is free and uses the U.S. Adult Catholic Catechism and companion workbook. God bless you!
