Home on the Hill Supportive Housing

at 209 Harding Blvd West, Richmond Hill , L4C 8X6

To provide a quality home environment for people living with mental illness in our community, by changing the way people are supported. Home on the Hill Supportive Housing came about when parents of adult children living with a serious mental illness, such as Schizophrenia or Bi-polar Disorder, joined to form Family Advocates for Mental Health, which met monthly at the Krasman Centre. The Mission of this group is the following: “Our shared objective is to individually and collectively aid our loved ones to achieve a better quality of life and thereby enhance our own”.

Description

We have been incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation under the Laws of Ontario and have applied successfully for registration as a charitable organization under the Income Tax Act. We are in the process of developing our Service Delivery Model. Two components of this model: the inclusion of the family voice and the acknowledgement of spiritual needs will make our Service Delivery Model unique. We engaged SHS consulting to assist us in developing our business plan, which we submitted to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). In conjunction with SHS, we also developed a needs assessment report that has been submitted to CMHC. Please see that report under Publications and Links. With assistance of Saint Mary’s Anglican Church Richmond Hill, we are in the process of creating an Email link to those social agencies in the Richmond Hill area that have a focus on homelessness and mental illness. The purpose of the link is to enable the agencies on the link, to communicate with the other agencies on issues of common interest. The link may also be of benefit when we conduct a fundraising drive to help finance the construction of the supportive housing project.
