Houston Christian High School is an independent, non-profit, coeducational, private day school which educates students in grades 9-12. The academic year consists of two semesters extending from approximately August to December and January to May. HC is accredited by/a member of the National Association of Independent Schools , and the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest . HC is also the newest member of the Southwest Preparatory Conference , effective November 2011. It is a located in Houston, Texas, United States at the intersection of Beltway 8 and Kempwood Drive, inside Beltway 8 and outside Interstate 610 in western Houston.HistoryIn 1998, Northwest Academy split into First Baptist Academy and Houston Christian High School. First Baptist Academy moved to a location next to Houston First Baptist Church, and Houston Christian remained at the Northwest Academy site until a new school was built off of Beltway 8 . HC originally occupied a 14.5 acres site at 4211 Watonga Boulevard. The British School of Houston opened on the former HC campus in September 2000.StudentsStudents of some private schools, such as St. Francis Episcopal Day School, John Paul II Catholic School, Grace School, Clay Road Baptist School, Holy Spirit Episcopal School and First Baptist Academy (FBA) matriculate to Houston Christian.Current enrollment is 515 students. Prior to admittance, a prospective student must complete a satisfactory interview and take the Independent Schools Entrance Examination (ISEE). Academic standing, conduct, disciplinary record, attendance and a writing sample are all carefully studied in this decision.
