Hudson Shakespeare Company is a regional touring Shakespeare festival that presents Shakespeare titles, modern productions and educational programs.

Description

Hudson Shakespeare Company is one of Hudson County, NJ's longest running theatre companies and home of the Hudson County Shakespeare Festival in Jersey City and Hoboken. Established in 1992, the festival has toured Shakespeare and modern plays to municipal parks, libraries, court rooms and other civic locations. We produce a core summer program of 3 productions, one for each month of the summer, which range from well known Shakespeare titles to lesser done titles of the Bard's works. Each production's style is unique, with us you can catch a modern take on "Hamlet", but also see a production of "Timon of Athens". We pride our company on producing the lesser done plays as we feel other theatre companies tend to over produce the more popular Shakespeare titles and ignore some very good work found in the lesser done shows. In the non summer months, we produce modern theater titles such as "Inherit the Wind" and school program's such as our all-female "As You Like It" along with student Shakespeare workshops. Although based in the Jersey City/Hoboken area, our tour encompasses Hackensack,NJ, Fort Lee, NJ, Kenilworth, NJ, West Milford, NJ, and Stratford, CT

All summer shows are free to the public, although our shows at The Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery are a $10 suggested donation to assist with the historic site's upkeep.
