Animals enter the shelter through the Investigations Department and our Agents are on the road constantly responding to calls about animals in distress. We need the help of the public to continue this important work. To provide compassionate care for abused, abandoned, and neglected animals in our community while they await their new beginning in life.

The Humane Society of Durham Region is not a government organization and are not affiliated in any way with Animal Control. We receive no tax dollars or regular government funding. We rely solely on donations from the public and money raised through fundraising events and adoptions. We are a registered charity and issue official tax receipts for donations. All donations are used solely for the animals in their care. The board of directors of the Humane Society of Durham Region is a volunteer group.
