This Stadium was known as the International Sports Centre and it was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 10th of April 1970 The Stadium is the centrepiece of the Hunter Venues sports precinct. Home to the Hunter Region’s two flagship sporting franchises, Newcastle Knights (NRL) and Newcastle Jets (A-League), the stadium is now in the final stage of a major redevelopment that will bring it up to an international standard., The new grandstand provides new food & beverage outlets, upgraded venue space and improved corporate facilities Once completed, the venue will have a standard capacity of 33,000 with the ability tohold up to 40,000 people for one-off events, enabling it to attract international standard touring teams and competitions sport and entertainment as well as catering for the local community.
