International Jugglers' Association - IJA

at 1300 Market Street, Madison , 19801 United States

"To render assistance to fellow jugglers." The International Jugglers’ Association (IJA) is a membership 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to “rendering assistance to fellow jugglers.” It fulfills this mission through a wide variety of programs run both on the ground and online. The organization is run by an all-volunteer staff and seven-member Board of Directors. Its membership roster includes professional and hobbyist jugglers from five continents. The IJA was founded on June 16th, 1947, by a group of professional vaudevillians who recognized the need for a juggling advocacy group. These jugglers and variety artists began annual meetings under the IJA’s name and offered service and support to all IJA members. While the organization was originally a group of professional American jugglers, the group’s roster quickly began to include jugglers from further afield. Today, the International Jugglers’ Association offers programs to jugglers all across the world. The organization continues to hold an annual festival, where the IJA Stage Competitions take place – an acclaimed event often referred to as the “World Championships of Juggling.” The IJA also publishes eJuggle, an online magazine with articles written in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. This magazine is an informational hub for jugglers in all corners of the world, featuring instructional videos, advice for professionals, and articles of more general interest. The IJA also certifies youth instructors through intensive, week-long workshops at the annual festival. These instructors lead circus- and juggling-oriented arts programs across the United States under the IJA’s name and fiscal sponsorship after successful completion of the program. The IJA also holds a series of stage competitions in Central and South America, which serve to bring emerging performers without means to the annual IJA Festival in the United States. The 2011 competition was held in Guadalajara, Mexico at the Barullo Circus Arts festival. In 2012, the competitions will be held in Penaflor, Chile and Minas Gerais, Brazil.
