The Independence Studio will initially be a one year pilot for a social enterprise for people with a learning disability to make films and carry out other visual media projects. The studio will be based at the Grace Little centre, at Kingmoor park. The studio will be open three days a week-for six hours a day, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There is capacity for six artists to attend on any of these days. The artists will be supported by two members of staff from Carlisle Mencap. Additional media professionals will provide training throughout the project. There is no charge for attending the project, as it is fully funded for the first twelve months by the big lottery fund. Transport is not funded by the project, though there is a bus stop just outside the establishment, which can be travelled to via the number 62 bus. People wanting to attend the project must have an interest in, and some ability in visual arts. Activities will include, drawing, photography, music, filming, scripting, voice overs and much more.
