The Innermost House Foundation™ is a 501c3 nonprofit volunteer organization uniting land, craft and thought to renew the ideal of "plain living and high thinking" at the foundations of American culture. The Innermost House Foundation™ is a nonprofit, volunteer organization uniting conversation, culture and conservation to continue the work that began at Walden Pond. Together we are devoted to exploring the transcendental dimension of the American experience proposed by Thomas Jefferson, preached by Ralph Waldo Emerson, practiced by Henry David Thoreau at Walden Pond, preserved by John Muir in Yosemite and united at Innermost House.

The Innermost House Foundation™ is a 501c3 nonprofit volunteer organization uniting land, craft and thought to renew the ideal of "plain living and high thinking" at the foundations of American culture. The Innermost House Foundation is a nonprofit organization conceived as a living experiment in the transcendental alternative of "plain living and high thinking" in American life. Our special mission is to enjoin thought-leaders in conversation and promote public awareness of the transcendental dimension in our laws and institutions, literature and arts, natural history and philosophy, spirituality and experience of wilderness, so to encourage and renew the founding, transcendental vision of a "healing of the nations" in the sanctity of the individual human being. Our mission has its roots in the "self evident truths" introduced in such founding documents as the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, the Bill of Rights and the Farewell Address. The philanthropic idealism expressed in those documents grew into the philosophic individualism of the 19th century transcendentalists in such works as the Essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walden by Henry David Thoreau. The foundations of that individualism in the American wilderness were preserved in the West by John Muir. Our purpose is to marry the spirit of philanthropy and individualism with preserved wilderness and 21st century technologies to bring the promise of American transcendentalism to full flower.
