International Student Support Team Our tight-knit team, part of American Councils for International Education, works exclusively with high school scholarship students (ages 15-18) from more than 50 countries on five different programs funded by the U.S. Government. We assist approximately 100 students and their host families per year, as well as support and monitor our on-the-ground team of Local Coordinators throughout the country. Whether you are a host parent or family, a student, or a Local Coordinator, we will be on a first-name basis with you throughout the year to help answer any questions, take care of logistics and paperwork, and to make sure your experience is awesome!
The International Student Support Team works with students on merit-based high school scholarship exchange programs. The programs we work with are: FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange): A model for numerous scholarship programs, FLEX has brought over 25,000 participants to the U.S. since its inception in 1993. FLEX expanded in 2016 to include new countries, including countries formerly part of the A-SMYLE and ExCEL programs. Participants come from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine. Kennedy-Lugar YES (Youth Exchange & Study): YES was established in October 2002 in response to the events of September 11, 2001. It offers students from countries with significant Muslim populations exposure to life in the U.S. and seeks to foster increased understanding and mutual respect between the U.S. and the countries they represent. YES participants come from around 40 countries spanning the Balkans and Southeast Europe, South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, different geographic parts of Africa, and Suriname. The Cultural Bridges Exchange Program (Bridges) is funded by the U.S. Department of State and provides merit-based scholarships for high school students with Iranian citizenship to spend one academic year in the United States. We are always looking for host families for our students so please feel free to contact us if you are interested in hosting or even just learning more about our programs at inbound@americancouncils.org.
