The Evolution of Invizage Furniture It all began way back at John Bateup Kitchens (Apprentice, April 1985 to July 1987) after actually starting my apprenticeship at Dura-Lite windows in Queanbeyan, I quickly realised that I had made the wrong choice of workplace, and was not going to learn the necessary skills for my chosen profession of cabinetmaking, when out of the blue I was contacted by John Bateup to see if I was still chasing an apprenticeship, as he had just parted ways with his most recent apprentice. I later figured out why, buts thats a whole other story! Spectrum Joinery (Apprentice & Tradesman, August 1987 to September 1991) I finished the remainder of my apprenticeship at Spectrum Joinery and then stayed on as a tradesman for the next three years to further develop my skills. As we all know, thats when you actually start learning, and they had some of the most talented tradesmen from which to learn from. HTH Kitchens (Kitchen Designer, October 1991 to Aprol 1992) I was attracted by the thought of learning more about the design process, but soon realised that I was now a glorified salesman! Yikes, this was not me at all, luckily the hierarchy in this company picked up on the fact that I was much more of a trade based worker and soon had other plans for me. HTH Kitchens (Production / Warehouse Manager, March 1992 to February 1993) This was more me, back into a workshop environment, but oh how different this was. Being such a massive international company based in Denmark and predominantly marketed all over Europe, their system was based on modular cabinetry which was very new to me. I adapted well and really enjoyed my time with them, as well as honed my management skills in running their workshop staff and planning their weekly deliveries of over 40 kitchens Australia wide. Spectrum Joinery (Foreman / Production Manager March 1993 to July 1997) Homesickness bought me back to the familiarity of Spectrum Joinery for my second stint, but this time was different. As the company was rapidly expanding, I quickly rose up the corporate ladder in various roles from a senior shop floor tradesman to leading hand to Foreman and eventually to a Production Management role, but by this stage I was getting itchy fingers to get out into the big wide world and have a go at this for myself. Damo’s Designs (Owner / Operator August 1997 to June 2001) Eureka! I was out on my own. What a reality check this was and I soon learned that without the proper contacts I was not going to survive, so I spent the best part of the next 4 years as basically a sub-contractor / hired gun around some great joinery shops including Homeworks and Choice Cabinetworks to name a few, while steadily building up my own network of contacts and building some modest joinery from my home based workshop. Invizage Furniture (Owner / Director July 2001 to present) I finally decided to go "All In" and start my own company in which I could produce the types of items that enticed me in to this trade originally. Bespoke contemporary furniture is my passion and what I enjoy doing on a day to day basis, so by starting Invizage Furniture it enabled me to essentially turn my hobby and passion into my career. I love what I do, and luckily so do my customers.
