The first It’s Yoga school opened in San Francisco in 1989 to teach Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Larry Schultz, the founder of It’s Yoga, practiced yoga for over 30 years and was the first to develop one of the most progressive and challenging routines based on the first 3 series of classical Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, called The Rocket, which he formed while on tour with the band The Grateful Dead. Since 1994, the It’s Yoga training program has trained lovers of yoga around the world and certified more than 3000 instructors. Our training supports students in deepening their understanding and relationship to the practice by studying the basic ingredients: breath, bandhas, dristi and asanas. With revolutionary methods to make the practice accessible and appropriate, our approach is modern, therapeutic, challenging, supportive and steeped in tradition. Our Yoga Alliance recognized Ashtanga Teacher Training Certification program is a practical training course designed to make you a confident and effective Ashtanga Yoga Instructor – for all levels of students. The purpose of this program is to provide a supportive environment in which students begin to connect with their inner teacher, internal wisdom and authentic voice. Through pranayama, asana practice, mind-body journaling, group conversation, reading and guided meditation, students will practice the essential process of conscious listening to your own higher self. The training is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation of knowledge and information with which you can confidently and effectively facilitate an Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga class for beginners. We also have advanced 50 hour (5 day) teacher training to take your practice and teaching to the next level. We intend to support each student as they develop, deepen, appreciate and expand their understanding of their true authentic self. Through basic study of philosophy, personal alignment, modifications of classical poses, pranayama practices, and individual instruction, this intimate training is sure to be a life enhancing experience. We look forward to working with you. This 200 hour 8-weekend training is a great opportunity for students of yoga who have full time jobs, families and commitments, to deepen their experience of the practice and learn to share yoga through teaching. The curriculum includes history, alignment and technique, sequencing, bandhas theory and practice, pranayama techniques, teaching ethics and methodology, philosophy, chakra contemplation, cleansing and purification techniques and basic anatomy. Classes will be held at The Professional Fitness Institute located at 6375 S. Pecos Rd. Suite 119 Las Vegas, NV 89120 (Near Sunset & Pecos) It's Yoga Las Vegas opened on Maryland Parkway across from UNLV in 2004 under the direction of Maggie Verderame & Larry Schultz offering classes, workshops and 200 hour teacher trainings. Even though It's Yoga Las Vegas closed its doors in 2008, you can still feel its impact on our yoga community through the numerous teachers that have been certified through the curriculum that are currently leading classes at all major studios here in Las Vegas. Because of the strong encouragement from Larry Schultz (It's Yoga founder) and support from the It's Yoga International Director, Marie Hajjar, the It's Yoga Teacher Training Program has resumed in Las Vegas under the guidance of Ottavio Gesmundo & Naomi Brenkman Gesmundo, who were certified instructors in 2005. Naomi & Ottavio began leading classes right after becoming certified Ashtanga instructors at It's Yoga Las Vegas and eventually assisted in the studio's teacher trainings. Ottavio & Naomi are also certified to lead Rocket classes and will soon offer Rocket Trainings in Las Vegas with some of It's Yoga's lead trainers.
