I have been teaching Yoga for about ten years. I possess a plethora of different certifications including Personal Training, Group Fitness, TRX, Kettlebells, Zumba, Silver-Sneakers, BARRE, BOSU Master Trainer, Yoga 200 RYT*, and many more. People sometimes ask me what kind of Yoga I teach (Vinyasa , Hatha, Yin…)? My response: My yoga is no pedigree, it’s a mutt. I believe strongly in muscle confusion. Your body will adapt to anything you force it to do and become so proficient at the task that you will plateau, thus stop improving. Athletes have learned that overuse injuries are very common, so my goal is to make the body move in different ways each class. Therefore injures are mitigated and results are maximized. If you’re the type of person that likes the exact same class, I am not the instructor for you. If you tend to like different challenges and postures that flow from one to the next, all while sweating loads: I’m here for you. Wondering WHY HOT??? Read some of these articles and decide for yourself! http://hotyogalouisville.com/benefits-of-yoga http://fourhourworkweek.com/2014/04/10/saunas-hyperthermic-conditioning-2/ http://www.southernom.com/why-hot-yoga/ http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/10/101025161144.htm “Need to Know” for HOT YOGA: • DRINK LOTS OF WATER. Aim for a gallon that day. Remember, this is a shower from the INSIDE OUT! • If you are NEW, DON’T PUSH YOURSELF!!!! Go at your own pace. Everyone has been doing yoga for a different amount of time, everyone’s body bends in different ways. We shouldn’t all look the same when doing the same posture. • Take frequent breaks. Child’s pose may become your best friend • If you have a pain or ache, press that body part up against the ground. The floors are heated so they sooth like a heat pad. Enjoy :D • If you feel dizzy, sit down and focus on trying to override the discomfort by using your breath, you can recover in less than one minute by simply closing your mouth and breathing through your nose. • Try not to eat at least two hours prior to class, but don’t come hungry either. If you have to eat, stick with something small. • If you’ve never been in the hot room before then try to get there 15 minutes early to sit in the room and acclimate. • Wear the minimal amount of clothing you can feel comfortable in. Sweat wick clothing is best. • SHARP PAIN means DON’T DO IT! Dull pain? Well that’s what it’s all about! Yoga Etiquette • Sign in before each class • CLEAN ANY EQUIPMENT BORROWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • NO SHOES past the entry • NO heavy perfumes (AXE and you’re OUT) • Mind your personal hygiene (realize when you need a shower both before and after class) • Keep your water bottle ON YOUR MAT! • NOTHING on the floor outside of your mat (if you need to bring in your keys/cell phone that’s fine, just make sure your phone is off and the floor around you is clear of clutter) • No chewing gum.
