Jayaprakash Narayan Nagar, popularly known as J. P. Nagar, is an established residential area located in the south of the Bangalore conurbation, India named after prominent Indian leader Jayaprakash Narayan. It is located in proximity to prime residential areas such as Jayanagar, Banashankari, Bannerghatta Road and BTM Layout.J. P. Nagar was created during the period of Ramakrishna Hegde as Chief Minister of Karnataka. It's a BDA promoted layout and is characterized by independent dwelling units, small scale apartment and high street retail developments. J. P. Nagar was developed as an extension of Jayanagar and Banashankari to accommodate the growing population of Bangalore. J. P. Well-known residents of this locality include Kannada actor and politician Ambareesh, playwright and actor Girish Karnad, former Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. The well-known theatre for arts Ranga Shankara is located in J. P. Nagar.
