2015 is Ms. Jennings 25th year committed to development of the independent record label and artist. Focusing on the administrative and logistical structure of a record label, she has had the pleasure of working with hundreds of independent labels and artists across the country. Ms. Jennings began her career in 1989 with the Musicland Group in San Diego, California as a customer service representative while attending college. She later entered management with Suncoast Motion Picture Company- a division of Musicland group in Aiea, Hawaii. While managing the first Hawaii based store, she increased the sales of that location to over one thousand dollars a square foot. (1.2 million Gross annually) After leaving Hawaii, Ms. Jennings moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. She was placed into stores that dealt primarily with urban product. As a “clean up” manager she was utilized to re-establish staff, product and day to day operations of a location. She set a goal to raise stores sales by twenty percent (20%) annually and did so for the seven years she spent in retail. It was in New Orleans, while managing a Musicland store; she found that local labels such as Cash Money Records (Hot Boys, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, BG), Big Boy Records (Mystical, Fiend and Ghetto Twinz) and No Limit (Master P, C-Murder, Mr. Servon) were selling three to one over major releases. Despite this success, many labels did not have an understanding of publishing, sales, and distribution. As a result, Ms. Jennings discovered a void and facilitated programs for independent record labels, thus creating her first business – JABI (Just Another Bright Idea). 1997 Ms. Jennings was recruited into music distribution by Big Easy Distribution, serving both as a sales representative and as urban product manager. She along with the team at Big Easy earned the NARM – National Association of Record Merchandisers, small distributor of the year award both in 1998 and 1999. In 1999 she moved to Houston, Texas to work with Southwest Wholesale in the distribution division as the Urban Product Manager. In 2003 she began a new enterprise, Industry Works that utilized her background, knowledge and experience. Ms. Jennings primary objective for her integrity driven company was to provide services in publishing, management, distribution and consulting to the independent music entrepreneur. She has worked with Twista, Speedknot Mobstaz, Crucial Conflict, Jayo Felony, Mitchy Slick, Paul Wall, Solja Slim, DJ Jubilee, Bizzy Bone, All for One, Jeff Majors, Waymon Tisdale, Floyd Mayweather, Roy Ayers, J.T. Taylor of Kool and The Gang, Waymon Toops, Buckwheat Zydeco, Ellis Marsalias, Baby Bash, South Park Mexican, Jody Breeze, Cowboy Mouth, Scarface, Waka Flocka Flame and Grammy Nominated Producer Toxic and Legendary Traxter to name a few during her career. 2008 marked a new chapter for Ms. Jennings to further expand her enterprise; Ms Jennings incorporated her retail, distribution and management background to sign a distribution deal with Universal’s – Federal Distribution. Releasing records from various independent artists Industry Works was one of five labels signed to Federal until it merged with TuneCore in 2010. New ventures are always of interest for an entrepreneur. Music conferences and educating artists and labels has been a passion for Ms. Jennings. After spending three years with Core DJs, co-producing the Core DJs Retreats, Ms. Jennings partnered with long time business associate Isaac “Lucky” Smith to create “DJs United Conference”. This is an annual conference that incorporates, DJs, artists, labels, and executives that come together to network, educate, break records and have a good time. 2014’s conference had over 300 participants. 2013 looks to double that. She has also moved her company to Atlanta to work with Waka Flocka’s label Brick Squad Monopoly and begin a new venture – Clout Agency Group – A management and music services company – with the owner and publisher of Street Report Magazine “General”. It’s a great time to be an independent in this business. Eye on the Goal… Focus on the Task at Hand.
