James Lloyd Alright Jazz Peeps, as 2015 comes to an end the JazzCat Productions Inc. "Weekend Highlights" has featured some prominent contemporary jazz artists since it's beginning in October. I started the "Highlights" off with Gerald Albright followed by Pieces if a Dream, Gerald Veasley, Matt Marshak, Candy Dulfer, Art Porter Jr., Jonathan Butler, Eric Darius and Nick Colionne. To bring 2015 to a close I want to feature my good friend James Lloyd of Pieces of a Dream who recently released his first solo CD project earlier this year entitled "Here We Go". Not only has James enjoyed an unprecedented 40 year career with his partner Curtis Harmon with Pieces of a Dream but James has also had much success in writing and producing songs for other contemporary jazz artist in the industry. On Keys the only word that I can think of that adequately describes James is simply.... "Gifted". For those of you who have had the opportunity to see him perform on stage I'm sure you will agree that he definitely enegrizes the audience and he knows how to get them engaged in the moment. As a former keyboard player myself I have truly admired his musicianship since the early 80's.....Say La La :) Over the years our acquaintance has grown into a close friendship and even now I consider him and his lovely "Wifey" Teresa Barron-Lloyd family. James...CHEERS....Here's to you My Brother.... So Jazz Fans, here we go, my top 21 favorite James Lloyd tunes (check them out) :) (Some of these are from his solo CD project, some written by him specifically for Pieces and others written by him featured on the CD's of other artists) 1) Play It Forward- Here We Go- JL 2) Night Vision- Acquainted With The Night- POAD 3) Contigo Aprendi (With You I Learned)- Nestor Torres- Sin Palabras (Without Words) 4) Sunshine- Joyride- POAD 5) Tonight's The Night- Love's Silhouette- POAD 6) For You- Bout Dat Time- POAD 7) Remembrance (9/11/01)- Love's Silhouette- POAD 8) Club Jazz- In Flight- POAD 9) Human Inteface- All In- POAD 10) D'Vora- Pieces- POAD 11) Stepper's "D" Lite- In The Moment- POAD 12) For Ramsey- We Are One- POAD 13) Misty-Eyed- In The Moment- POAD 14) Here We Go- Here we Go- JL 15) Cry Of The Lonely- Ahead To The Past- POAD 16) Uptown Swagger- Eric Darius- On A Mission 17) Acquainted With The Night- Acquainted With The Night- POAD 18) Teresa- Pillow Talk- POAD 19) Out Of A Dream- Najee- Rising Sun 20) 2nd 2 None- Najee- My Point of View 21) Coming Home- In The Moment- POAD Tell us your favorite James Lloyd tunes.. NICK COLIONNE Alright Jazz Peeps, for this Holiday edition of the JazzCat Productions Inc "Weekend Highlight" I'm going to take my time :). It is my extreme pleasure to feature my good friend and native Chicago brother Nick Colionne. I'm sure all of you will agree that going to a Nick Colionne show is truly a happening experience. Whether it's a serious soul ballad "Rainy Night In Georgia" or the funk - driven tribute to James Brown, Nick Colionne always brings the party. Not only is Nick a talented guitarist but he is an all-around entertainer. Plays, sings, tells jokes (and he's actually funny!), not so much on the dancin' although he has been known to borrow some of the young guns such as BK Bernard Jackson and Vincent Ingala to handle the dance moves & steps...LOL.. In all seriousness you don't see too many like Nick Colionne out on the circuit, he is definitely brings it "Ol' School style", always sharply dress and never unprepared which displays much respect to his audience. Nick is not just a performer but he entertains. When I first met Nick years ago it was like a double-bonus becuase it also gave me the opportunity to get to know his late Manager Carol Ray. Truly a beautiful spirit but those of you who knew her knew that Carol wasn't going to stand for no mess!! James Brown would have renamed his hit to "Mama Don't Take No Mess". She was straight forward and to the point. Over the years for me personally she became a friend and mentor and provided me with much guidance as I really dug deep into this endeavour. For those of us that had the good fortune to get to know Carol you could not help but love her. Nick Colionne and Carol Ray go hand-in-hand and we miss her very much. I have to tell a quick funny Nick story. One time during his performance at the Seabreeze Jazz Festival he perfomred the tune "Po' House", you know the one " Lend me a dollar, makes me wanna holla", well we talked our friend Cheryle from Cincinnati to go up to the stage and hand Nick a dollar during the song, all of a sudden everyone in the VIP table section started following suit and I can tell you there were more than just twos & fews flowing...Hey Nick, I'm still waiting for my cut!!.. :) I truly love this guy, he's the real deal and it only appropriate that the Christmas Holiday highlight goes to Nick Colionne. So Jazz Fans here are my Top 25 Nick Colionne tunes (check them out) :) 1) High Flyin'- Just Come On In 2) Rainy Night In Gerogia- Keepin' It Cool 3) Hurry Up This Way Again- Just Come On In 4) Always Thinking Of You- Keepin' It Cool 5) Whatcha Gonna Do- Influences 6) When You Love Somebody- Influences 7) Here's To You- Influences 8) Blue Nites- Arrival 9) Happy Times- Arrival 10) Keepin' It Cool- Keepin' It Cool 11) Headin' Wes Before Dawn- No Limits 12) Anyway (vocal)- No Limits 13) Let's Spend Some Time- Feel the Heat 14) Po' House- Feel The Heat 15) Everythng Must Change- Arrival 16) Slammin'- Influences 17) Nicos Ride- Influences 18) Juanita (Nini's Song)- It's My Turn 19) Godfather J- No Limits 20) Some Funky- Feel The Heat 21) It's Been Too Long- Just Come On In 22) Melting Into You- No Limits 23) No Limits- No Limits 24) Love Shoulda Brought You Home- It's My Turn 25) It's Gonna Be Alright- Feel The Heat What are your favorite Nick Colionne tunes? HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE..BE SAFE & ENJOY.

ERIC DARIUS Alright Jazz Peeps, this weekend for the JazzCat Productions Inc "Weekend Highlight" it is my pleasure to feature our "Homeboy", Tampa native Eric Darius. I have been following this young man since he was 17 years old and have had the pleasure of watching him grow within the contemporary jazz industry as he gained national and international prominence. With the high-energy comparable to that of the late great Art Porter, Eric is truly a fan favorite on the jazz cruise and festival circuits. Not only is he a talented saxophonist and performer he is truly a nice person and he adores his fans. I would be remiss if I didn't send a shout out to his parents Serge and Shirley and acknowledge their support and guidance in getting Eric on to the national scene. Alright Jazz Peeps, it's time for JazzCat Productions "Thursday Night Jazz Spotlight". Tonight I am honored to highlight an amazing talent from the past. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, this rising superstar of the late 80's & early 90's was taken from the world too soon. Arthur Lee "Art" Porter Jr. drowned during a boating accident on November 23, 1996 in Thailand while attending the Thailand International Jazz Festival. For those of you who were fortunate enough to see Art Porter Jr. "live" on stage you witnessed an energy like no other of his time. One only has to wonder what influence Art's music would have had on the contemporary jazz world had he still been with us today. A true gentleman and all around nice guy and master of the saxophone I take this Thursday evening to remember Art Porter Jr. Here are my Favorite Art Porter Top 14 tunes (check them out) :) 1) Flight Time- Lay Your Hands On Me 2) Lake Shore Drive- Lay Your Hands On Me 3) Texas Hump- Pocket City 4) Inside Myself- Pocket City 5) Someone Like You- Straight To The Point 6) Autumn In Europe- Straight To The Point 7) DB Blue- Lay Your Hands On Me 8) Candlelights- Lay Your Hands On Me 9) There's Only You- Undercover 10) Little People- Pocket City 11) Straight To The Point- Straight To The Point 12) A Day Without You- Straight To The Point 13) Pocket City- Pocket City 14) Passion Sunrise- Pocket City What are your favorite Art Porter Jr. tunes?
