My focus it to give people clarity on how they are doing financially. By determining how successfully they manage their debt and their investments, I find areas that my clients need guidance in and help them to manage their money to help them achieve their goals. Sometimes it means saving more, somtimes it is reallocating their budget to help them achieve their goals.Other times, it is making sure that their income is tax friendly - which means less money going to Harper and more money staying in their pocket. I use the analogy that advisors are like car mechanics. You may already have a mechanic that you use. Is your mechanic the guy that changes the oil and sends you on your way, or is your mechanic that for the same price will change the oil, check and top up the fluids, check the wheel alignment, do a tune up, give you a coffee and a newspaper while you wait, and make recommendations on how you can keep your car in top condition. Some advisors will sell you a product and then you never hear from them again. I work with my clients to develop a comprehensive financial plan that includes determining the clients net worth as a way to determine how they are doing on a year to year basis. I provide them with a written retirement plan that will show them what they need to do to retire on time, in the manner that they want to.
