The John L. Magro Foundation welcomes you to celebrate the legacy of John Magro, whose contributions to the business, civic, and philanthropic organizations in Cincinnati and abroad are legendary. The zeal and passion with which he served his community was fueled by an event, which happened when, as an eight-year old child, John was at the brink of death following a sledding accident. Overhearing a doctor tell his mother that he probably would not pull through, the young boy became determined to survive and do everything in his power to “repay the gift of borrowed time”. As the “borrowed time” went on and John matured, he grew to realize his destiny to “express (his) gratitude for the divine gift of life” and eventually discovered that “a person is often happiest when giving the most”. For John Magro, “giving” was a full-time occupation with much of his effort directed toward the lyric arts. Known as Cincinnati’s “Music Man”, he served as president and general manager of the Cincinnati Opera, making many recordings and managing more than 60 grand operas for the Cincinnati Summer Opera Association. Always interested in promoting young singers, in 1959, he replaced “the big names” with young performers not yet internationally known. As a co-founder of the American Opera Auditions, he started Operas at Peterloon to showcase the audition winners on the lush lawns of this beautiful estate.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of teacher recommendations and financial need. Once selected, the foundation will continue to support scholarship recipients throughout their studies as long as they remain in good standing with the university and the Foundation is able to do so.Company Rating

Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP) is an all- volunteer, non-profit organization that exists to rescue, protect, and provide care for at risk pets. We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non profit organization. We are dedicated to the rescue of animals that are in need of a forever home. Our animals are fostered in homes where we provide love, food, medical care and socialization until adoption into a new loving home. We educate on the importance of spaying and neutering of all pets. We ensure all animals have been spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They are microchipped, up to date on shots and on heartworm and anti-flea medications (as age appropriate). They are ready and waiting to start their new life with their fur-ever family. Could that be you? We need your help to continue our mission. We rely solely on donations and fundraisers. All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of your donation will go towards the rescue, care, and medical needs of the animals.

The Ohio Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has been at the forefront of a wide range of suicide prevention initiatives -- each designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. We are investing in groundbreaking research, new educational campaigns, innovative demonstration projects and critical policy work. And we are expanding our assistance to people whose lives have been affected by suicide, reaching out to offer support and offering opportunities to become involved in prevention. We are increasing the number of community-based chapters, now at 50, with two-dozen more in development. And we have a growing list of friends and supporters leading a grassroots constituency that can advocate for the policies and legislation at the state and federal levels to advance suicide prevention. With a suicide attempt estimated to occur every minute of every day in the United States and over 36,000 lives lost each year, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
