The Justisse method of fertility awareness was first developed in 1987 in response to an expressed need for natural birth control training and support that would give women the information and guidance they need to manage their reproduction while respecting their rights to make their own decisions. From this foundation, Justisse has evolved into a centre for holistic health care that tends to all aspects of women's health -- both physical and pyschological -- as it relates to our reproductive selves. Justisse supports a Naturopathic and Complementary Medicine approach to managing health problems and enhancing reproductive health. Justisse Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioners (HRHP) are professional reproductive health care providers. They are well grounded in knowledge of human sexuality, basic counseling, and all methods of birth control; they are committed to reproductive health education. Justisse practitioners are trained to respect the ethnic and cultural diversity and the ideological and religious beliefs of their clientele. Justisse believes in empowering women with a well founded knowledge about and an awareness of their bodies and reproductive systems. This awareness helps women better understand themselves and make sound health care decisions.

About the Founder of Justisse -- Geraldine Matus Geraldine Matus is the founder of Justisse (1987) and the Director and Academic Dean of Justisse-Healthworks for Women (2003). She has worked as a fertility awareness and birth control educator, and holistic reproductive health practitioner since 1977. She qualified as a lay midwife in 1985. She has been active in the reproductive health freedoms movement since 1977. She has had the privilege most of her professional life of working with and learning from some of Canada's best Complimentary and Alternative Medicine Physicians. She completed her Masters in Depth Psychology in 2003, and is a Depth Psychology Ph.D candidate. Ms. Matus' work with women integrates her experience in women’s reproductive health with her training in psychology; she works to help women become empowered by developing a profound honoring of their body vessels. Her deepest interest is in inviting women into a deeper knowledge of the "Beauty and Blood Mysteries" as they unfold in the psyches, dreams,and daily living. Her work in training Justisse HRHPs and Body Literacy Advocates brings to the community competent and compassionate practitioners to serve women's learning about the workings and importance of the menstrual cycle and their ability to use that knowledge to make wiser sexual and reproductive health care choices.
