Kalianna's very own Britt Holmberg presented last Friday at the National Special Schools Conference at Crown. As well as promoting our amazing school she discussed the partnerships we have formed through the Autism Connect program. The Autism Connect program is a program that helps mainstream schools within the Bendigo Region to support students with Autism. Britt's expert knowledge has been helping local schools implement informed, research based practices within their schools to best support the needs of students with Autism. We think Britt is amazing! Room 8 invited their parents in for an open morning to show the fantastic work the students did on making their Australian fauna dioramas! Each student studied one animal, made a diorama and a poster then spoke in front of the class about some of the interesting facts about their chosen animal. This week our VCAL students were invited to take part in an information/question session with a small group from Radius Bendigo in The Morley Johnson Building. The students were able to meet the Bendigo Mayor, Cr. Rod Fyffe, and speak to him about issues that they were able to identify in the local community. Students were able to ask about bus shelters, bike paths and the QEO. Next students we were able hear Jane from ABC open radio speak to the students about identifying an issue that is important to them and using digital media to create a short recording expressing their concerns. Once they are complete we are able to upload them to the ABC website and they may be broadcast on the radio.
Chill on the Hill! A new program run by Interchange at Gravel Hill Salvation Army. Every Tuesday and Thursday night starting the 11th of July for high school aged students. It is $5 a night and students will get to make pizza, watch movies, chill out etc. from 3-6pm. Please let Jill know ASAP if you're interested in sending your child on 5441 1599 and then the school on 5442 1311 so we can organise transport to take them there. Thanks!!
