Established in 1673, Kingston is the oldest city in Ontario and is located at the confluence of Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River (where the Thousand Islands begin) and the Cataraqui River. In 2007, the Rideau Canal Heritage Route, including Fort Henry National Historic Site and the Kingston Fortifications, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Even though Kingston is the oldest city in Ontario, we are young at heart. Our waterways and heritage alone are reason enough to visit, and our academic, cultural and sporting facilities are another.
