I was privileged today to sit in on a talk (that the Kephart Foundation sponsored) by Rachel Coker, author of two books that are published..talking to aspiring authors at Charles City High and Middle schools! Such an interesting, educational, and inspiring talk to eager young minds! THESE are the niche programs that the Kephart Foundation loves to sponsor! Way to go, Charles City and Rachel Coker!!!!
And, riding on the waves of yesterday's post...We are also beginning to sponsor a similar program with the Charles City elementary school! We are sponsoring David Cutting, who is the main illustrator in the Blues Clues books and other works. We are hoping that this will be such an inspiration to the younger children to explore their imaginative side, challenge themselves, and release the artist within--in whatever form that happens to be! Such a worthwhile program! I'll keep you posted!!
SO PROUD to announce the first of two NEW programs for Charles City schools that we are sponsoring! In hopes of spurring students to explore their imaginations and improve writing skills, we are sponsoring Rachel Coker, a published author and young adult, to head a workshop for Charles City middle and high school students! She will motivate them to explore creative writing, as well as give personal insight into the writing and publishing process. HERE is to challenging the students of Charles City schools to excel!
Well, here is the latest from your (our) efforts at the Surry County Schools backpack program and pantry from Mark Grovesteen, our Foundation Board member who is spearheading the effort: The pantry is still looking great !!! Thank you to everyone for helping feed these children & families over the holidays.
On my way to New Kent Middle School to award the last of the Sheriff Howard's Citizenship Awards to some deserving young person! I'll post the winner in a few!!! Have a wonderful day!!!
Well, it seems to surprise people when they learn something else the Kephart Foundation is doing...so, I've vowed this year to share with all of you as things 'happen' that involve the Foundation. Helping smaller niche programs stabilize/grow/or even establish themselves is how our foundation excels. So, one of the most recent programs we have initiated is partially sponsoring youth at the West Point Schools Choir--I have been fortunate enough to enjoy several of their concerts, and it came to light that, during their well planned and executed trips to display their talents, not all the children can come up with their fund raising portion. So, yes, you guessed it, we (you) are helping fund one such voice--whom we will never know, never meet, and never have a name...but they will have the opportunity, which is all that really matters in the end....and that, my friends, is the beauty of our gift to those in need..
