I'm heading to the Richmond School of Ballet this afternoon to surprise two outstanding young dancers with the Malcolm Burn Award, as sponsored by the Kephart Foundation. I am constantly AMAZED at the amount of talent the Ballet continues to provide and educate! I'm only too pleased and proud to acknowledge some of this talent!

And, riding on the waves of yesterday's post...We are also beginning to sponsor a similar program with the Charles City elementary school! We are sponsoring David Cutting, who is the main illustrator in the Blues Clues books and other works. We are hoping that this will be such an inspiration to the younger children to explore their imaginative side, challenge themselves, and release the artist within--in whatever form that happens to be! Such a worthwhile program! I'll keep you posted!!

Well, here is the latest from your (our) efforts at the Surry County Schools backpack program and pantry from Mark Grovesteen, our Foundation Board member who is spearheading the effort: The pantry is still looking great !!! We were able to feed 25 families plus our 83 children enrolled in the program over the holidays and we have the shelves full again and ready for the next round of feedings this coming weekend. Thank you to everyone for helping feed these children & families over the holidays.

Well, it seems to surprise people when they learn something else the Kephart Foundation is doing...so, I've vowed this year to share with all of you as things 'happen' that involve the Foundation. Helping smaller niche programs stabilize/grow/or even establish themselves is how our foundation excels. So, one of the most recent programs we have initiated is partially sponsoring youth at the West Point Schools Choir--I have been fortunate enough to enjoy several of their concerts, and it came to light that, during their well planned and executed trips to display their talents, not all the children can come up with their fund raising portion. So, yes, you guessed it, we (you) are helping fund one such voice--whom we will never know, never meet, and never have a name...but they will have the opportunity, which is all that really matters in the end....and that, my friends, is the beauty of our gift to those in need..
