KIPP Durham College Preparatory, a free public charter school, opened in the fall of 2015 to serve 90 5th grade students in Durham, NC.
KIPP Durham opened in Holloway Street School in August 2015 serving students in 5th grade and will offer: • Strong Academics: Our extended day allows our students extra time to master reading, writing, math, history and science content and skills. By the time our students leave 8th grade, they will have earned 3 high school credits: Spanish I, Math I and Civics. • Commitment to Character: We believe that a solid academic foundation and strong character are necessary for lifelong success. We help strengthen our students’ zest, persistence, optimism, social intelligence, and self-control to mold the whole student in classes and extracurricular activities. • Extracurricular Activities: We offer activities such as band, choir, PE, sports, intramurals and clubs that allow students to explore their passions and interests. • Amazing Field Lessons: Each year, our students visit at least two colleges to ensure that they have the knowledge to help them choose which college is the best fit for them. Throughout the year, our students can earn exciting incentive trips and a special end of year trip to explore cities and sites that are tied to our mission. • Teachers Who Care: All of our teachers are available after school for extra help. Nightly, our students will find teachers staying after to work with students, and if they are not at school with students, they are available by cell phone.
