Kissick Construction is a full-service construction company with the resources to handle large, multi-disciplined projects in-house while providing personal service every step of the way. And, from the very beginning of every project right through to the last detail, our focus is quality. It’s the standard Kissick Construction was founded upon. Principals Jim Kissick and Pete Browne continue that commitment to client satisfaction, adhering to the ideals that every job must be completed on time, with master workmanship and attention to detail.
We accomplish this by hiring only the best people. Their broad expertise and dedication helps us achieve a heightened level of quality. That’s why we’ve been able to develop long-lasting relationships with many of our customers. They expect a higher level of quality. And when they work with us, they get it.
Kissick Construction Company was founded in 1994 by Lloyd James "Jim" Kissick III and his nephew Pete Browne in a one bedroom apartment in Brookside. At first, they had a desk top computer, a laser jet printer and under 10 employees. Today, Kissick Construction has over 250 employees and does over $100 million in work per year. To their new firm Jim and Pete brought a long working relationship and a commitment to provide quality service to their Kansas City client base. They believed then–and still do today–that success is result of treating others fairly and with respect, hiring and retaining talented people, and never saying “we can’t” to a client. Since then the firm has grown to manage 100 million dollar single projects and has developed a strong reputation for providing innovative thinking to solve engineering challenges.
Although Jim and Pete are entrepreneurs in their own right, their proud tradition of service is rooted in their extended company and family history. This history goes back to 1896 when James H. Kissick started Kissick Transfer Company, an equipment hauling business in Kansas City.
In 1922, James' son Lloyd James Kissick Sr., started Kissick and Son Construciton in south Kansas City. The 'Son' in Kissick and Son was Lloyd James Kissick Jr., who served as the company's Vice President. When the company began, they specialized in road oiling. The firm quickly expanded into the road grading business across the Midwestern states.
The 1940’s and 1950’s, post war expansion saw the development of cities and highways. Kissick Construction was a key player in this work, adding asphalt and concrete plants to their road and grading operations.
Today Jim and Pete continue to serve the greater Kansas City area as respected contractors. Their firm has sharpened its focus in heavy civil work – earthwork, utilities, structural concrete and foundation piling. Their highly regarded Kissick teams are bringing value to clients throughout the midwest. Through the years, the Kissick family continues its tradition in construction in Kansas City. Jim's sons Lloyd James Kissick IV and David Kissick have added another generation to the long line of Kissicks in the construction business. Construction isn't just a family business; to the Kissicks, it's a tradition.
