The vocal study prepares the young singer for the widest variety of jobs in the profession, depending on their ambitions and capabilities. Graduates of the Royal Conservatoire find their way into such places as the opera stage, concert circuit, experimental theatre, educational practice, and professional choirs and ensembles both in The Netherlands and abroad. From the outset, the student is stimulated to develop their professionalism in the widest sense, not only in order to make effective use of the course program, but also through participation in projects within and outside the Royal Conservatoire. A broad network of contacts the musical world is maintained, through which students can have the opportunity to orientate themselves within musical practice, to obtain experience and to raise their profile with appearances. The vocal course at the Royal Conservatoire is known for its open attitude in which students can work with more than one voice teacher at the same time, profiting from their various qualities. With an essential basis in excellent vocal technique, students come in contact with chamber music projects and orchestral and choral projects; for example with the Residentie Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Choir. Students can also participate in projects with The Dutch National Opera Academy, work on collaboration projects with the composition department, can gain experience with such organizations as the YO! Opera festival, The Netherlands Bach Society, The Netherlands Radio Choir, Cappella Amsterdam, VocaalLAB Nederland or the annual Young Composers Meeting in Apeldoorn. In previous years, students from the Classical and the Early Music departments worked in projects and/or masterclasses with conductors/leaders such as Christina Pluhar, Patrick Ayrton, Barthold Kuijken, Ton Koopman, Jaap ter Linden, Kenneth Montgomery, Reinbert de Leeuw, Jard van Nes, Ira Siff, Lynn Dawson, Malcolm Martineau, Eva Maria Westbroek, Alexander Oliver.
