The school was established in 1994 as part of the Elk Grove Unified School District. It is home to various organizations and programs, including the Business Career Academy (BCA), Green Energy Technology Academy (GETA), the Manufacturing Production Technology Academy (MPTA), the Sports Careers Academy (SCA), and the rigorous International Baccalaureate Programme.Business Career AcademyThe Business Career Academy is a program that allows students to study for careers in business. Students study basic business procedures in their first year in the Academy, and later they get hands-on experience at the school student store. Students ranked in the school's top 1% occasionally get a class period that permits them to leave school early and go to local businesses such as Apple, Safeway, and The Habit to work in $25-an-hour internships.Green Energy Technology AcademyStudents of the Green Energy Technology Academy study the technology of renewable energy. These GETA students explore the concepts of energy extraction, conversion and transmission processes through complex, hands-on, project-based work. Depending on a their post secondary plans, students who graduate from the Green Energy Technology Academy will be prepared to enter two or four institutions of study, enter a technical training program or go directly to work in the Energy Sector.Manufacturing Production Technology AcademyThe Manufacturing Production Technology Academy program prepares students for a career in crafts work and engineering. Projects range from helpful community projects such as developing and manufacturing toys for children with cerebral palsy to developing basic engine automobiles. The department allows selected MPTA students to enter a program that provides hands-on opportunities.
