Las Américas ASPIRA Academy was established to provide students a world class education through a dual-language project based learning curriculum.
ASPIRA Academy students will become fully proficient in reading, writing and speaking English and Spanish through immersion in both languages as they learn all subjects. The curriculum is aligned with Delaware and Common Core State Standards and is project-based, so students learn by doing. ASPIRA Academy welcomes students from diverse ethnic, racial, language (English & Spanish), and socio-economic backgrounds. Half of the Academy's students are primarily English-speakers and the other half, primarily Spanish speakers. The Academy's curriculum is rigorous and challenging. At ASPIRA, we believe every child is college bound. All students will become bilingual, bi-literate and bicultural within six years in the program while gaining the academic, physical, social and emotional skills to succeed in school and in life.

At Las Américas ASPIRA Academy, we encourage students to develop healthy eating habits. As stated in our School Code of Conduct, “We encourage students to bring a water bottle and snack (both labeled with the student’s name) to be consumed during specified snack times. Food should only be consumed in the Café or the classroom… the educators at LAAA would like to discourage unhealthy foods, such as soda and candy, being sent to school for lunch or other school functions.” Please remember that we are a “nut-free” (peanut AND tree nut) school and snacks should not contain these items nor be processed in a location where cross-contamination may occur. All food brought into the school must have an ingredients label that may be checked, if necessary. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation! Sra. Gluck Assistant Head of School En Las Américas ASPIRA, les pedimos a nuestros estudiantes desarrollar hábitos alimenticios saludables. Sra. Gluck Asistente Directora de Escuela

Transportation Update Effective the Week of August 31, 2015: We thank our families for their cooperation as we address the challenges faced due to a shortage of bus drivers. We anticipate that changes will need to be in place for school dismissal through the month of September. We need your help to minimize the impact of this shortage. Please think about any of your trusted friends, family members or colleagues that may be interested in employment as a bus driver and refer them immediately to Sutton Bus Company. Beginning on Monday, August 31, 2015, our dismissal process will change in the following manner: · Students assigned to buses 5, 6, and 7 will be dismissed at 3:30pm as usual (no change). · Car Rider dismissal will begin at 3:30pm as usual (no change). · Students assigned to the remaining buses (1, 2, 3, 4, 8 and 9) will remain in school until they are dismissed at 4:30pm or upon immediate arrival of their bus. During that time, students will be provided a meal and supervised by grade-level teachers. As a result of this change, students will arrive at their designated bus stop approximately 45 minutes later than usual. Should you decide to make a temporary change to your student's mode of transportation during the month of September, please contact the Main Office via phone (302-292-1463) or email (ASPIRA.MainOffice@laaa.k12.de.us) by 5pm on Friday, August 28, 2015.
Dear Parents, It was a pleasure welcoming your student(s) back to school yesterday! As I made my way throughout the school, I noticed that students were engaged in team-building activities facilitated by their teachers and learning the routines and procedures necessary for a successful school year. After reflecting on the day’s events, it became clear that in order to ensure the safety of our students, your compliance with our policy regarding dismissal changes are required. As stated in the School Code of Conduct: “*Parents must notify Main Office prior to 12:00pm of any changes effective same day.” (LAAA School Code of Conduct, p.19) If changes are not sent to the Main Office (either via phone at 302.292.1463 or email at ASPIRA.MainOffice@laaa.k12.de.us) prior to noon that day, the student(s) will be sent home according to the transportation information listed in Eschool. Parents should not email individual teachers with changes. Changes in dismissal are not the teacher’s responsibility. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation! Margie López-Waite Head of School
