Setting a homework schedule that includes time for reviewing notes, studying for tests and time for fresh air and exercise are keys to a healthy learning environment. Thank you to Waterloo Regional Police Services for an informative presentation ~ helping parents to understand the apps and websites our children our navigating in the on-line world. Some important tips for parents: 1. monitor the apps your child is using ( Ask FM, KiK and YIk Yak) are flagged for the negative chats that are occuring on-line.. 2. Sit with your teen and make sure all privacy settings are locked and continue to update the privacy settings. 3. Any application that values safety will have privacy settings. If the app does not have privacy settings ~ it's a concern! 4. You need a license and driver training to drive a car~ you need parents to help you navigate safe use of the internet! A teens on-line digital footprint can last forever. Teens ans parents want to make sure that the real life person and the on-line persona are the same! Teens and parents need to be aware that there are certain websites that can grab a teens photo - steal photos that are publicly available and use it on another website which can be risky. It's called indexing and there are websites that parents would not want their teen's picture associated with. Need more information: Go to Safe, Smart, and Social website for more tips for parents. Light, Bright and Polite is another helpful site for parents! Let's help our kids create a positive footprint for the future!

While most grade 8 are enjoying their trip to Niagara Falls we have prepared three days of fun and festivities from Monday June 22nd, to Wednesday June 24th. These three unique days will have something for everyone and are intended to give Lancers a chance to have one last chance to celebrate all their successes of the year with their friends before the summer and in some cases say goodbye. These three days are a package deal and students cannot pick and choose what events they attend as it is an all or nothing deal. If you find it difficult to pay for the year end activities please contact the school immediately to make accommodations so that you child will be able to participate. All students are expected to take part in our year end activities and there will be no alternative program as each activity has many levels of participation that should be able to suit all students. Monday, June 22nd – Lancerfest Lancerfest is a fun filled day at the school with loads of activities. The first three periods of the day will be in class but the rest of the day will be free flow for the students outside. Features of Lancerfest include all you can eat hot dog lunch (includes 1 drink and 1 bag of chips with additional drinks and snacks available for purchase, Halal and vegetarian options will be available) snow cones, henna tattoos, art activities, hockey shoot out, Game Asylum video game trailer, free throw competition, prize raffles, and carnival games. Activities will range from $0.25 to $5. Tuesday, June 23rd – Bowling and a Movie On Tuesday students will either go blowing in the morning and watch a movie in the afternoon or vise versa. You will get to select your own bowling team of 4 to 5 people and select the movie you would like to see at Laurentian Cinemas. For the movie that day you will have the selection of 1 of 4 screenings throughout the school. Laurentian Cinemas will be showing The Maze Runner, Mean Girls 2, Big Hero 6 and Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb. But, what is a movie theater without snacks? We will have a drink, popcorn, a chocolate bar and cotton candy available for each student to munch on as they watch the movie (each students will get all of these treats at no cost). Please listen to announcements to find out sign up times for bowling teams and to select the movie you would like to see. Please co-ordiante with your friends first to decide on a movie you would all like to see, as last minute switching will not be allowed. Wednesday, June 24th – Bingemans Wednesday will be our trip to Bingeman’s Big Splash waterpark. Students will have full access to the waterpark as well as mini-golf. Concessions are available there or students are welcome to bring their own lunch.
