July is National Scams Awareness Month, so our Trading Standards team want to hear about the scams you experience. From today we will have a scam mailbox in our Customer Service Centre in Granby Street; the Citizens Advice Bureau in Charles Street and the Central Library in Bishop Street. Please feel free to deliver your scam mail to us (minus your personal details) and we will collate the mail to see who who the biggest scammers are. The first scam of the day is a lady in LE4 who received a call on her landline from a person telling her she was in the wrong council tax band and that she was due a refund. They told her she would have to pay £89 to receive the money and when she asked who was calling they hung up. You can call the Citizens Advice consumer advice helpline on 0345 404 0506 to report any suspected scams...#scamaware

What are the schedules for the council to do road sweeping and drain/gulley emptying? I am sure that this activity is not carried out a regular as it used to, but would prevent a large enough amount of the localised flooding we see with the present am of rain?

Ive noticed the pensioner bungalows on Battersbee Road / Keightley Road, the hedges have not been cut which the council normally do. The people living in them bungalows can no longer watch the world go by which my Grandma used to love to do. Its a disgrace they only have the overgrown shrub hedges to look at! It annoys me that they are negkecting things like this yet you always see 3 or more yellow vabs at one house with workers sitting in their vans on mobile phones for over an hour (evidence of this) what is the council playing at!

The pioneer of popular tourism, who launched his travel business with a day trip from #Leicester to #Loughborough 175 years ago, has been remembered in the city today. Thomas Cook’s railway excursion to a temperance rally in Loughborough on 5 July 1841 made him one of the world’s first travel agents – and gave Leicester the right to call itself ‘the birthplace of tourism’. City Mayor Peter Soulsby laid flowers at Cook’s statue outside Leicester station, while history group the Victorian Strollers marked the occasion at Loughborough Central station.
