After high school, he worked in the family piano service business, Hess and Sons Piano Service, to be close to music while learning a skilled trade for income. But he soon discovered that he was good at it and so his interest in the industry grew. In 1979, 11 years after working for the family business, Len started his own company, Len Hess Piano Service.
